Anyone who is unable to attend but would like to share with those of us that are able to attend, please send your information and I'll make it available at the event for everyone else. Our ancestors used to have very large reunions in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana. From the time that David Hoover founded Richmond, Wayne Co., Indiana in 1806, his father Andrew Hoover along with other family members held very large family reunions. Now it is our turn. My sister Marcia and I are organizing the event. We have reserved a small building (with tables, chairs, and power) and a picnic pavilion, located in Glen Miller Park. Bring your laptops and exchange data with others. We will also have a computer, printer and scanner. Since we are opening this up to anyone, but in particular the following surnames: SLOAN, BROWN, HOOVER, DILL, GILLESPIE, MURPHY, DEARDORFF, CASKEY, and BUSH, we are hoping to have a good turn out. Their will be a "bring your own food" picnic at the pavilion. There is both a Meijer and Wal-Mart’s deli where picnic style food may be purchased. There is an outdoor grill pit and we will provide the charcoal. Paper ware, flatware, bottled water, pop and coffee will be provided. Please RSVP so that we have a headcount for planning purposes. The Mayonnaise Jar, Golf Balls, & 2 Cups of Coffee... When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee. A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes." The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. "Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions--and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full." The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else--the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you." "Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first--the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand." One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked." "It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend." Please share this with a Friend. This may be of interest to descendants of Cleyson Brown: Article on: Cleyson Brown - In The Wichita Eagle newspaper, Wichita, Ks. (March 30, 2007) A mill accident, when he was 10 crushed Cleyson Brown's right elbow, ending any hope of his making a living as a farmer or miller, It was 1882. Brown studied and grduated from Abilene High School, taught for a time in a country school, then attended a business college in Burlington. By the time he was 26, Brown founded a utility company that would evolve into Sprint, one of the world's largest telecommunications companies. He remodeled the family grist mill - where his arm was mangled - into an electric company. Local leaders in Abilene were impressed with Brown's Electric Light Works, encouraged him to extend the service into nearby communities. A year later, he began supplying telephone service by using poles from his electric company to string telephone wires. In 1903, Brown emerged with 14 other independent phone companies to form the Union Telephone and Telegraph Company. By 1911, the company was known as United Telephone Company and was the second largest phone company in Kansas, right behind BELL. Brown invested his profits into other companies including an oil company, grocery store and warehouse company, more power companies, a news service and hotels. By 1926, he was one of the wealthiest men in Kansas. He built a 600-acre park, campgrounds and home near Abilene - Brown Memorial Park - and endowed it with more than $1 million. Brown died November 12, 1935, and a number of his businesses were merged; in 1937, they became United Utilities Inc. In 1972, the company changed its name to United Telecommunications. It launched the name SPRINT in 1986.

Lula was born as stated on familysearch.org June 1876 Windfall, Tipton, Indiana she married Orris H. Francis 9 Apr 1898 Tipton county Indiana. They are on the 1900 census of Indiana however watch out for spelling of the name Orris it is listed as Oris, Orrin be creative with the spelling of Orris. I tracked them from 1900 to 1920 still in Indiana. I tried for 1930 but Heritage Quest does not have Indiana indexed as of yet. Need to check out Ancestry for that page. Lula's parents were George L Brown and Mary Ann Brankle.
