    1. [BROWN] Browns from VA to AL - early 1800's
    2. Carol Lackey
    3. Does anyone have a connection to John Edward? Brown who was born abt. 1760 in Virginia, died 1804 in VA and married Mary Elizabeth Nelson? Their son, Jabez Nelson Brown b. abt. 1797 in VA. He married Catherine King Devone b. 17 April 1800 North Carolina. Both died in Butler Co., AL. They had 11 children born between 1822 and 1847. They were: John Edward Brown, George Washington Lafayette Brown, Richard Wadkins Brown, William Coolidge Brown, Henry Jackson Brown, Catherine King Brown, Caroline R. V. Brown (my second great grandmother), Mary Brown, Ira Devone Brown, Mariam Narcissa Brown and, James Madison Monroe Brown. In some old handwritten notes from an early genealogist, there is mention of J. N. Brown and his wife came to AL via Florida. There was also some mention of his having been in the "Indian Wars" though I have not been able to find any trace of J. N. in old military records. Carol

Henry Randall Brown was the son of Simon Henry Brown (DOB June 1, 1863 and DOD August 19, 1935). Simon Henry Brown married Devalsco Eugenia Hargrove, daughter of Daniel Jackson and Elizabeth Thomas Hargrove, on December 1, 1891. Last week I was going through some old pictures and came across a folder with the heading of "The Browne Family of Virginia, North Carolina, and Alabama -- Rock Hill, S.C. July 25, 1956." It begins with, "Full credit for this work is given to Col. Woolsey Finnell of Tuscaloosa, Ala., who spent many years and much money collecting the data for it, to his family, and especially to his daughter, Mrs. Nubie Livingston, who did the major part of the correspondence, the assimilating of this material, and typing it." Does it mention how Thomas and Jesse would be connected? I also believe Dr Jesse Had a son DR Samuel (1730-1800).......I believe in this line there may have been some Anthony's... How large is the folder?...I would be willing to pay for copies if needed.. Thanks Sue Susan A. Henry Randall Brown was born January 4, 1909; and, if my memory is not too far off, I believe that he died approximately 1961. Nubie Livingston, who did the major part of the correspondence, the assimilating of this material, and typing it." (NOTE: The information in the first paragraph of this message regarding Henry Randall Brown's parents, date of birth and date of marriage to Annie Laurie Strickland is also taken from the information prepared and in the folder giving credit to research of Col. Woolsey Finnel.) The information in the folder begins first regarding Thomas Brown's will that was probated in 1765 in what was then Jerusalem, but is now Courtland, in Southampton County, Virginia. The name of his wife was unknown. Then it mentions Dr. Jesse Browne who was a prominent doctor. There is quite a bit of information on those who come after. Should anyone like me to look up any names, please give me as much information as you can and I will try to help in any way that I can. 1. [BROWN] locations requested
    2. I would like to respectfully request that when people are posting on the list with specific individuals or families, please include a location, be it actual or assumed. With a name like BROWN, there are many people from all areas of the country searching. It saves time and energy for all of us if we can see a location and know that this person is in a location we are searching or not. Not always can we say "well maybe" - in my case it is a very specific family that is a brickwall but I know where they were. Simply a request. 3. Well, I do have to say that this great grandmother of mine - Mary Undine Brown - kept the same spelling of that name until she died, which was in 1912, I believe (off the top of my head). I appreciate all the responses to my two Brown lines, especially the first one I wrote about. How about the second one - my Ezekiel Brown, Jr. ended up in Henry Co., Alabama, and I don't know when he died or where he is buried. His widow was Emily (Greene) Brown, and I don't know when she died either, although I do know that she was still alive in 1870. I also don't know what happened to any of their children except for Amanda, who was my great grandmother who ended up back in Harris Co., GA after being with her husband, John Q. Thomas, at the hospital in Macon, GA. He died in 1864 from wounds sustained in the Civil War. Just to refresh your memories, the name of Ezekiel and Emily Brown's children were: Franklin, Amanda M. (my great grandmother), Elizabeth, George, H. Harrison, Jane, Mary, James, Nancy, and Charles. Surely, there must be some descendants somewhere in Alabama or Mississippi or somewhere, from all these individuals. Perhaps Florida, as I do know that Charles Brown was in the upper part of Florida at one time. Can't seem to find out much of anything from the Henry Co., AL web site. I know that H. Harrison Brown owned land there. 3. Oh, my word, Carolyn - three Brown lines?!!! Whew! You are lucky, aren't you?!! You sound like one of my nephews. His last name is Brown, which was his father's name, plus he has the same two Brown lines that I have, from his mother (my sister). His father's Brown line came through Milam, Tennessee and on to Arkansas, I believe. Oh, by the way, even though my first name is Carolyn - I go by my middle name, Sue. Some of my other surnames are Johnson (my maiden name), Clark, Winfield, Cowan, McKee, Sherard, Dickey, Wiley, Faver - all on my father's side - just to mention a few. On my mother's side would be Gilbert, Thomas, Canady, Evans, Strickland, Braswell, possibly Taylor, Merritt, Stokes. Thanks for writing.
