I am looking for the family of Alex Brown b. c. 1837 GA. I don't know if this family had lived in GA for a while or they were just passing through to AL or FL. I am interested in the parents of Alex, where he was b. in GA, and siblings if any. Augusta b. 1840 GA. Wife of Alex Brown. I am also interested in where she was b. in GA, her maiden surname and siblings. This couple appeared on the 1870 Alachua Co. FL census. I can't find them anywhere before or after 1870. They were in FL, Alachua Co. by 1868 for sure, but could be in FL earlier since most of the 5 children listed on the 1870 census was b. in FL. I am not sure about the first child who was b. in 1860. Other records say GA and then FL. All of the older children could have been born in GA.....but all five children are listed as born in FL. I am looking for more information on the children also. I am not a Brown descendent or researcher; however, my Aunt, Annie Laurie Strickland, was married to Henry Randall Brown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on December 25, 1936. Henry Randall Brown was born January 4, 1909; and, if my memory is not too far off, I believe that he died approximately 1961. Henry Randall Brown was the son of Simon Henry Brown (DOB June 1, 1863 and DOD August 19, 1935). Simon Henry Brown married Devalsco Eugenia Hargrove, daughter of Daniel Jackson and Elizabeth Thomas Hargrove, on December 1, 1891. Last week I was going through some old pictures and came across a folder with the heading of "The Browne Family of Virginia, North Carolina, and Alabama -- Rock Hill, S.C. July 25, 1956." It begins with, "Full credit for this work is given to Col. Woolsey Finnell of Tuscaloosa, Ala., who spent many years and much money collecting the data for it, to his family, and especially to his daughter, Mrs. Nubia Livingston, who did the major part of the correspondence, the assimilating of this material, and typing it." (NOTE: The information in the first paragraph of this message regarding Henry Randall Brown's parents, date of birth and date of marriage to Annie Laurie Strickland is also taken from the information prepared and in the folder giving credit to research of Col. Woolsey Finnell and his family and daughter, Mrs. Nubia Livingston.) I am researching my great, great uncle, Dan Brown. His full name is Daniel Flower Brown, born 30th May 1870 at Bristol, England, UK. His mother was Esther, (formerly Hester) Brown, nee Flower. Father was Daniel Brown. Dan was the youngest of five children. Older siblings were John, Sarah, (my great grandmother) Stephen and Elizabeth. Daniel went to Canada when he was about 14 or 15, in 1884/85 and then on the USA. In 1891 he visited his family in the UK, (he was 21) but nothing was heard of him after that. I would love to know more about him. All I have is the family story handed down but I don't know how much of it is true. Mary.
