    1. [BROUGHAM] Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team If anyone has an interest in finding alternative communication possibilities and/or suggestions for alternatives, please send a note to the list to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [BROUGHAM] Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di

My Mother (Pamela Jean Adams) is the last in our line, my Surname is "Jewett" and that's another story all together, lol. I am the only Grandchild between their two Daughters, my Aunt (Sheryl Lynn Adams) never had any children so I'm it. I've always been curious to the truth of the Family history since most of my senior Family members has been weird about it so all I have is what I can filter out by reading between the lines at times. Will give you a call and say hello. My home number is: (210)254-9251 I live at: 21511 Thunder Basin, San Antonio, TX, 78261. From my understanding, the Broom name was "Englishised" at some point for one branch of the Clan to enter English politics. There's an old cartoon on the internet about lord Henry Brougham, in the caption it says "anyone need a Broom?" this was to denote the root of his name in an effort to label him as a sympathetic Scotsman to English rule who's goal was to undermine the English Monarchy/Empire. Is your surname Brougham? Are you male? I wish one of you Mr. Broughams would do a Y-DNA37 marker test at FTDNA.com. It is $20 cheaper if you order a test in a surname project. The Broom project is the only project at FTDNA that welcomes Broughams. I find only one Brougham has done a test at FTDNA. I do not know if it is autosomal, mitochrondria, or Y-DNA. My maternal grandfather Furman Broom (1864-1939) said we were originally Broughams. Here is my contact info: -- James W. Author: buchdaven Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.brougham/34.4.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm responding to the post from cucobird, as well as the original post. Catherine (in the original post) was one of at least twelve children, possibly more. Her parents were Michael Edward Brougham (~1815-1892) and Maria Burrell (~1831-1893). One of her siblings was, it seems, the g-grandfather mentioned by cucobird, who went by the alias of Lynn J Adams. This man was also my g-grandfather, making cucobird and myself second cousins. Cucobird: I would like to connect with you, as I have some information about Adams/Brougham that may be of interest to you, and I think you might have some for me as well; I am attempting to piece together his back-story, before he married Rita, and it's a tough line to follow, as I'm sure you know. Your grandfather, Ed, was my grandmother's brother. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: cucobird Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.brougham/34.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, Saw your question and thought I'd toss in my 2 cents. What your cousin mentioned is correct. My Grandfather (Mothers side)is a spitting image of Lord H. Brougham. I to heard from Grandma that Henry Brougham invented the Brougham Coach and defended Queen Caroline. I was also told by my Grandmother (Jean Pearl Adams) that my Great Grandfather emigrated from Canada in the early 1920's and practiced Law in Washington State (USA) and had one son, my Grandpa. My Great Grandfather was later killed as a result of a trial he was prosecuting against, a crooked contractor was gougeing the government. My Great Grandfather was walking out of his office and outside the front door the contractor was waiting and shot my Great Grandfather in cold blood, he claimed he was reaching for a gun but Grandpa was only pulling a lemon drop out of his vest pocket, the contractor was let off as "an act of self defence" it destroyed my Great Grandmother financially since they left the Brougham family ! behind. So apparently, the reason my Great Grandpa emigrated to the US and changed his name from Brougham to Adams was a result of some dirty arms/gun deal that he was involved in some years prior. During WWII, my Grandfather (Edward Croy Adams) served as a pilot and flew cargo planes in "The Hump" and during his service, my Grandmother got some letter/notice from the British government regarding the Brougham estate and if they intended to take posession of said estate. Grandma said they declined and sent the notice back to England, Grandpa was raised by a Step-Father who was a carpenter so he did that to support his new Family. My mother has a stack of old photos of Great Grandpa and his Irish Wife who had red hair wearing some incredible clothes and uniforms, I can't recall her name but apparently their marriage caused a stir, I don't have much on my Great Grandpa's full name since it's all second hand info from my mother who I rarely talk with. As for myself, I was born in Sacramento, CA (where Grandpa lived most of his life) and I served 26 years in the Army as an Infantryman/Sniper, went to 2 wars and did my duty, I have 2 daughters and only married one time and still married to the same beautiful Lady from Spain. In the past I see some people saying that no offspring of H. Brougham are out there, funny how many people have similar stories, just remember that DNA never lies. If you ever read H. Broughams' speaches, you can tell he was long-winded, my Wife is always saying how I just "blah, blah, blah...) lol. I can tell you that my Grandpa was a great person, he was sort of short and thin, he was well respected around the Sacramento Executive Airport where he did Aerial Photography and did part time work at the Sacramento Bee as a type setter. I divulge all this in hopes you're able to connect any loose ends, hope it finds you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jwg3 Surnames: Brougham, Broom, Broome, McBroom, Green Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.brougham/40.7.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: rickbrou92 (Richard Brougham) & everyone subscribed or reading, Your info on how to pronounce Brougham is very interesting to me. My mom was born a Broom & said her father b. 1864 said our name was originally Brougham. I can find no evidence of this, but a Y-DNA match with Broughams would be great evidence. Most Brooms & Broomes & McBrooms in the Broom DNA project at FTDNA.com match. No Brougham has ever tested their Y-DNA. I keep hoping one will test their DNA one day. The ideal place to test Y-DNA is FTDNA and the ideal starting test is Y-DNA37 (37 marker analysis). It can be upgraded later & their are sales on upgrading about twice a year. The shipping & handling charge is $5 within the USA & $7 outside the USA. If you want more info email me directly at [email protected] & I can be more helpful. Incidently, I am pleased to report we now know our Brooms are DF63. That is our deepest SNP (i.e. deepest clade -- y-haplogroup within the tree of all humans). I am very proud we know it this precisely. By contrast my Greens are Z11 Greens so I have incorporated that into my surname below. To keep from boring, I will stop here. Sincerely, James W.
