Henry has any dates?
Hi Docdad! I'm afraid I'm always having trouble figuring out your emails. Are you chatting with one specific person or something???? If you put your comments near what they refer to they'd make sense to folks like myself, who apparently are not "in the loop" or "on the same page" as you are. Thanks. His name is Michael (Mike) Shaw, he lives somewhere within driving distance of Concord, NH, and he's been "my little problem" for about a year now. As far as I can tell he's not on *any* page. I've given him a ton of private coaching because he seems to struggle with both keying and understanding how the list works. I first thought he was a stroke victim or had a learning disability. But after he recently received a long-awaited NARA file, he wrote an entire paragraph to the list to announce it, complete with punctuation and an organizational sequence. SO he CAN be lucid when he takes the time and commits the effort to do so. I CANNOT get him to pay the slightest attention to subject lines, about which I've posted him dozens of times. He sends me one to five of these cryptic messages each week, and occasionally sends one to the list as well. Mike has a Brooks line that was in Williamsburg (now Brooklyn), NY and Red Bank, NJ. He's got them back to around 1800, but in that area they might come from anywhere. I've done exhaustive lookups on my own initiative to try to help him, but he doesn't follow up any of my suggestions. (The last was that he subscribe to Williamsburg and Jersey area lists.) He doesn't seem to have ever read a "how to" books for genealogy beginners, and ignores my suggestions that he do so. I really haven't a clue what to do with him, but it seems hardhearted to bounce him off the list simply because he doesn't know how to effectively participate. It took me months of repeatedly asking him for his name before he'd answer even that question. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to coach him would be welcome. I also hope your response will spur him to try harder. Chris
