This very well could be Samuel born :7 November 1754 in Medford, Massachusetts, son of Samuel and Abigail :(Hastings) Brooks. This may have been his first marriage. Can anyone :supply more information about Samuel and Hepxibah (White) Brooks? Here's the Boston marriage record: Samuel Brookes & Hephziba White | int. reads [Hepzibah] | Sept. 22, 1774 It's found in "A Volume of Records Relating to the Early History of Boston Containing Boston Marriages from 1752 to 1809." Boston, MA: Municipal Printing Office, 1903. Digitally reproduced on CD-ROM "Early Vital Records of Suffolk County, Massachusetts, To About 1850" (Wheat Ridge, CO: Search and ReSearch Publishing, 1998). The problem is there's no further identity for either person. I guess Samuel's identity as the man b. Medford, 1754 is reasonable since you show a dau Hepsibah of his first marriage. She would be named after his first wife. But the following Medford death record poses a potential problem: Brooks, ____, w. Sam[ue]l, Jan. 2, 1783. [consump[tio]n, a. 22, C.R.1.] It's found on p. 349 of the published VR. Again, Samuel is not further identified. If both Samuels are the same man, and the unidentified decedent of 1783 is Hepsibah, and her age at death is accurate or close, then she married at about 13 years of age. The problem is always, "Which Samuel?" or "Which William" when many men of the same name are living contemporaneously. Now factor in a third wild card, found in the Concord VR, p. 251: Samll White of westford & Hepzibah Barrett of Concord was married by the Revd mr Wm . Emerson May ye 23d. 1775 This Hepzibah (Barrett) White, b. 3 Oct 1750 at Concord, was also a Brooks, the daughter of Ens. John Barrett and Lois Brooks, in the Concord line of Capt. Thomas. I've totally confused myself with these various possibilities, Wylie, but there are some clues for you to play with. Chris
