Luther, with his father, were pioneer settlers in the town of Highgate, Franklin Co., Vt., where the former lived 48 years in one house and died there. For many years he commanded a Company of Riflemen; was at the battle of Plattsburg, N.Y., took an active and zealous part in the War of 1812-14; twice represented his town in the State Legislature, and for more than forty years was almost continuously the official servant in his town and county in some office of trust.
