    3. Bryce (what is your last name?) sent me this offlist, but I know the thread will be of interest to others, so I'm moving it to the list. This list is set up so that any reply to a message defaults to its *sender* and not the list. I've forgotten myself a few times and almost done so a gazillion times, but you have to type the list address into the To: line in your email header. Otherwise, your reply will be private and never seen by the rest of the listreaders here. The address to send to the list is [email protected] Should anyone forget, the address is also in the welcome message you received when you subscribed, which of course you saved. :-) I've changed the subject line to reflect the fact that I've also changed the focus a generation. Chris ================================ ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 19, 2001 1:24 PM Subject: Re: [B-NE] Asa/Asahel Brooks b 1800 Mass Here is a bit more about Asa/Asahel Brooks he married Betsey Mears whose father was Isaac Mears of MA and died in Bennington, Sandgate TWP, VT was in 1820 census in VT Betsey and Asa/Asahel moved to Convis TWP, Calhoun Co. , Mi and appear in 1870 census there. Father of Asa/Asahel was Asa Brooks b 1761 Westminster, MA. d 1826 in Halifax, VT sibblings of Asa/Asahel are as follows Ezra; Arnos; John; Alva; Joseph; Edward Flint (Found in Gill, MA was Clergy); Rebecca; Tamar; Polly; Rhoda; and Eunice Bryce looking for parents of Isaac Brooks of Steuben TWP, Oneida Co. NY his son Charles L married Jeanette Powers and moved to Marshall, MI abt 1834 . . . appear in 1850 census in MI ================================ We've had a fair amount of interest, both on the list and off, in John/5 BROOKS, a Revolutionary soldier of Westminster, MA who married Eunice DARBY. Some of our subscribers descend from this marriage; several others thought they did, but found they don't. This is the line of Capt. Thomas/1 Brooks. John and Eunice married in January, 1754. I find the births of seven children recorded in Westminster vitals; the first in 1756, the last in 1772. Asa/6, the third, was born 30 Apr 1761, served two enlistments in the Revolution (1779-80), and married, 11 Mar 1788 at Westminster, Rebecca SAWYER. The marriage record notes him of Halifax. Census indexes record the presence of an Asa Brooks at Halifax in 1790, 1800, 1810, and 1820. (I haven't checked film.) He died back at Westminster 14 Sep 1843 [Westminster VR, 215]. At first I thought your Asa was a continuation of Asa/6 -- assuming that Rebecca Sawyer died, and that he married again. But you don't provide a date for the marriage to Betsey MEARS -- which would have to be after 1772 to be consistent with the proven 1st marriage, but would also have to be early enough for Asa to still be of fathering age. What bothers me more is that your list of Asa's siblings has 11 children (4 more than I find birth records). And of your list of 11, I can match only 2 (John and Ezra) to Westminster records. My question is whether these aren't two different men. A lot hinges on the Brooks/Mears marriage date.
