    1. [B-NE] More on Azariah Brooks of St. Albans
    2. Forwarding this with Cindy's kind permission. ============================= Chris - You also suggested researching Oliver Keith. I have done this, but am no closer to determining if Martha was a Brooks by birth or marriage. I have names of children and one is a Martha B. Keith. The B. could stand for Brooks and then it is probably the mother's maiden name. However, there was a William Burton as a witness to the Azariah/Harrington heirs deed. Possibly if Martha was the widow of Harrington, her maiden name was Burton. So her daughter's middle name could be Burton rather than Brooks ---- possibly???? I rather think Brooks was Martha's maiden name though. Here are is some other information for Azariah: Azariah Brooks of St. Albans petitioned for a ferry from St. Albans to North Hero and Alburgh. It states that he owns a farm on St. Albans Point on the shore and resides on the same at the most convenient place for the ferry. Dated 1 OCT 1803. The General Assembly didn't grant a ferry right until 20 OCT 1807. Why the right was held up for 4 years is not detailed. Original found in Ms. Vt. State Papers V.44 pg. 42. OH land records 14 MAR 1823 Isaac Clark and wife Electa to Azariah Brooks of Newburgh $200 T7 R12 part of tract 8 33 acres wits: Jonathan Fisher and Lewis Peets (D-475) 28 NOV 1829 Azariah Brooks and Daniel Brooks (and wife Clorrisse) of Newburgh to Robert B. Angevine $425 Tract 8 Newburgh Twp. T7 R12 32 acres heretofore deeded by Isaac Clark to Azariah Brooks wits: Asahel Palmiter and Lewis Peet Lewis Peet, J. P. (I-22) NOTE: This Daniel Brooks is the Daniel Brooks, ancestor of Diane French. It was determined to be that Daniel by matching the wife's name. One list I received of children of Hananiah Brooks lists a Daniel - no other information. So either Diane's Daniel was probably a son of Azariah, or Azariah and his supposed nephew owned land together. His probate is found in Cuyahoga Co. OH. "Horace L. Brooks appointed admin. of estate of Azariah Brooks, deceased, late of _______ in this county." However, the only papers in it are the paper naming Horace Brooks executor and when he gave up the executorship to Moses Campbell and James Eastwood when he was indicted for murder. There are no relationships given, heirs, death date, inventory, or will. The first date given is Jan. 7, 1851, when Horace became executor. Moses Campbell and James Eastwood were sureties. Hiram Ruggles, Nehemiah Marks, and William billings were appointed appraisers. Horace resigned being executor on July 4, 1851. NOTE: Horace was the son of Benjamin. In checking of the other sureties/executors (James Eastwood and Moses Campbell) no relationship to Azariah is found. Moses Campbell and wife Rosinah were born in NY 1798 & 1805. They were not in Ohio on the 1840 census. There were two Moses Campbells in NY however. James Eastwood and wife Elizabeth were both born in England 1812-20. They are not found on the Ohio 1840 census index. Cindy
