    1. Re: John Broadwater
    2. My ancestor is Broadwater Matney b abt 1788 VA, d abt 1870 OR. His parents believed to be William Broadwater Matney m Jane (Brooks), need proof. Searching for data on this & which Broadwater family they tie to. Jane Matney, believed to be Broadwater Matney's sister, m James Nickels & res Nickelsville, Scott Co, VA, descendants still live there. Book written 1995 by Edwin E Nickels of Blountsville, TN gives 3 or 4 of James & Jane Nickels ch marrying Kilgore at Scott Co, VA. Looks like Broadwater, Kilgore, Nickels & Matney families have ties. Anyone researching Nickels or Kilgore ? Edwin Nickels told me there are descendants of the Broadwater family still living in Nickelsville, Scott Co, VA area. Scott Co, VA Cemetery Records pg 123 & 126 list Broadwater families members. >From the Index of "Kegley's Virginia Frontier, Beginning of the Southwest, Roanoke Colonial Days 1740-1783", Broadwater: p 262 John a Colonial soldier. p 540 Ann m James Tosh; p 541 Martha m John Anderson; p 535 Charles in Capt Neely's Co of Militia; p 534-5 People enrolled in Co res above & E of Peter's Ck in vicinity of Great Lick.
