I thought I would repost this due to new members ! =====================AS Follows==================== 1869 Broadwater signs as guardian for Stephen Mayben's marriage license at Josephine Co, OR. Stephen & new wife are on the 1870 census there, but not Broadwater. History of North & West Texas, Vol II pg 428 says Broadwater died about 1874 in southern Oregon. 1880 Jackson Co, OR census has James M & Carrel B Matney, plus Stephen Mayben. All 3 on 1884 Tax Rolls. History of Randolph & Macon Co, MO, Chap VI Hudson Township mentions Broadwater & John Matney in lists of early settlers. History of Randolph Co, MO. Mexican War. pg 273. Tells of July 1846 a company of abt 100 men from Randolph Co went to war. List of the men & a flag the women made them & stored in the courthouse were burned. Of those on another list was E A Matney. Hist of North & West Texas, Voll II pg 424 gives more about Elisha's war service. James Madison Matney went to the Mexican War per letter Summary of Personal Data in Pension Records in National Archives. Re: Matney, James "M", Mex SO 15 781. Report states he a civilian teamster at Corpus Christi, TX Mar 1 to 31 May 1846 when discharged. Macon Co, MO Land Records show James M Matney buying & selling land 1847 & 48. Elisha is also dealing in land & has some lots in town of Macon, MO. Elisha in his biography told he 1st went west as a "forty-niner", then crossed the plains 6 times. It says he brought father Broadwater Matney to OR 1864 as he missed his sons. Elisha stayed at Shasta Co, CA until 1870, then went to Arkansas, then 1874 settled at Montague Co, TX. Elisha Matney married Mary Mayo. Her grfa Thomas Mayo who was a 1st settler at Randolph Co, MO. Thomas's early log cabin now sits on the Courthouse grounds at Moberly, MO.
