Something to search out see if we can get more on k;-) ============================================================== Land Records of Long Standing, p 107: John West vs Elizabeth Yerby -- In Ejectment. Deposition of Abraham Lay, age 71, that about Jun 1715 he came to this county as a cabin boy in the ship "Robert & John", Charles Broadwater, Commander. Ship to get a load of tobacco from Messrs Rozer & Adison. Sometime in Dec following Merrs John West, present plaintiff's father, d between which time & latter end of May 1716 Capt Charles Broadwater intermarried with Major West's widow, the plaintiff's mother. In July Capt Broadwater left with his ship for London & his deponent with him. He returned May 1717 with Capt Broadwater in the same ship & a William Mudge, Commander & he as apprentice to Caulkers business. He resided with Capt Broadwater until his death between 1730-35. Question lies about property line between land of Mr Woodbridge, now Mrs Yerby's, ;& that he believes that about 10-15 feet has washed away & 14-15 years ago he used the landing as a fishing place. ===============
I just found this on another mail list and wanted to share it with the lists. Pat Obrist, e-mail at bottom of page, may have further info on some of these families. One name I recognized is Green which some of us have been looking for, and this would be the ship passenger list for this family to America. I also noticed Darn which shows up in VA. I've never had a handle on Cooper, but wonder if this Thomas Cooper fits anywhere, Carolyn. There may be other names in these lists some of you will recognize. Since this ship came so early, these names are possibly the American roots of these families. Norma Passengers of the "Ark" and the "Dove" The following list is taken from Series II, "Register of Maryland's Heraldic Families," by Alice Norris Parran, 1938, [the passenger list through the research of Mrs. G. Awhile back , the list called HOMESPUN which I was on for a very long time started a cookbook to help rootsweb finacial problems, many users pitched in and sent OLD recipies from their past to the cause, these books Vol 1 and Vol 2 are 10 bucks each, all the money goes to rootsweb, cept th e printing cost's . A nice effort by a lot of roots web subbers !! I had save a lot of them as they came through, they got some good ones, and its a keepsake from rootweb too. Dan ================ Please do not send us a check for the over run Vol 1 cookbooks. We will not purchase them unless we have AT LEAST 100 books ordered. We have to buy them all or none and we cannot afford to buy them if we do not have them pre-sold. If you would like to order one please email Sandi at slynn@m7.sprynet.com or Shirley at kworth@pacifier.net. We will let you know by email if we get enough orders and THEN you may send us your check. If you send it now we will have to hold it until we get enough orders, and then return it if we don't. This will just add extra expense if we have to return checks. Thanks, Shirley --------------------------- Dan

Dear Subscribers Thanks so much for all the responses to my querry. Looks like I have alot of work ahead of me. I really appreciate all the information you have been posting Carol! Great work! I have located a researcher who is willing to do some work for me in Scott Co. She is familiar with the area and has even offered to interview the current Sheriff Broadwater, (this was her idea as she already knew he was sheriff). Perhaps if this is something the rest of the list members are interested in, I can post the interview to the list for all. If this has already been done please let me know. Hi- I'm a Matney researcher (Mattingly-Matheny) We have one Broadwater Matney in our family we need more info on - He's from Tazewell County VA, near Scott County. We know the first name Broadwater comes from the surname but have not been able to connect him with the Broadwater family. The first Broadwater can be found on the net in St. Mary County MD as Hugh Broadwater, transported before 1664 from England, a servant. In the Revolutionary War, a family of Broadwaters were in the American Navy and mentioned often in the The Virginia Navy which can be found on Ancestry. Several of the sons of Broadwater Matney came to Oregon from MO - Walter came on the 1843 wagon train, Carrel and James came later, another son Elisha also came to Oregon but went back to MO, AR and finally settled in TX. There is a town in Montana named Broadwater for a "Col. Broadwater" who settled that town after the Civil War, I believe there is also a Broadwater County. I think you will find there are a lot of Broadwaters in the country. There were a lot of them in MD - 3 cemeteries in St. Mary County have Broadwaters. You'll have to check it out. I'm interested in the Broadwaters in Scott County VA. I am searching for information regarding the parents of my ancestor Sarah "Sally" Kirby who was born c. 1785 in Virginia, possibly Westmoreland or Fairfax Co. I have no concrete information except in old family papers, it is said that her mother's maiden name was Broadwater. One of her sons was named Thomas Kirby and thus I suspect that ? Broadwater married a Thomas Kirby. "Sally" married Henry Warner in Fairfax Co. c. 1802. Their first son was named James and their first daughter, Helen. I have searched VA records in vain. There were Broadwaters, Kirbys and Warners living near one another in Fairfax Co. in 1782 but I have not been able to make a connection. I would appreciate any bit of information. Thanks in advance. I have been working on the Webpages, the website you all know is gone, I have been working it into the the share, show and tell, query base I have been planning on, I have just completed a little over 20 hours rewiting it, instead of 3 pages it now has 12, they should be all self explanitory, its up to you all to make it grow with information to post, and plenty of Query's. There are a few things that I need to do, and some I need to write better. I still have several pages to add, each of these pages have a lot of room to add your links, and queries, names , whatever you would like to share with any one comming along ! I have a Matney Query Page, a Mattingly Ouery Page, and one for Broadwater comming up, as well as for some others I have been working on, now to get it all in the right sequence's and all will be well with it !! I am going to eventually have a gray background on all pages, I think its easy on the eyes, and makes for better reading, and showing of most colors ! This is an early stage of this rewrite, would like to here comments, or suggestions, and dont forget to send submissions for it to help others out who may visit ! Might notice the new 'Title' !;) Dan Matney in Oregon http://www.angelfire.com/or/matney/ try the MATNEY research list ! Matney/Cooper/related families!
