Whoops, just happened to think if this first Charles died 1785, that would explain why he wasn't in Fairfax County in 1790 census. Hmmmmh? Thank you for this Judy, very interesting. I wonder if this first Charles is father or same person as found in Fairfax Co VA in 1782. William appears to be a brother to Charles. There is no date for the Capt. Broadwater but he could be a ship Captain or he could have been a Captain in the militia. I would vote for ship captain since he seems to be listed with respect. If this is 1740 and we find several Broadwaters as ship captains or members of the crew in the Rev. War after 1776, this could put these Broadwaters in VA earlier than we thought. This needs to be sorted out. Find some more info and I'll try to help you analyze it. I'll see if I can find my Broadwater notes. Dan forgot to mention here this is Broadwater Matney - we would like to know who he was named for as we have found no case where Matneys married a Broadwater unless it is one of the sisters of this Broadwater Matney from MD or VA that we have not found mention of.
