    2. Dan
    3. Post person cited on bottom---- You all might like to try this? Dan ============================ For What It Is Worth Department: If you go to: DOCUMENTATION AND PUBLICATIONS at: http://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/~vctinney/sources.htm you will note a section called: University level user-friendly resources: UC Systemwide sample See: LIBRARIES for access and overview information. Within this section is: FIRSTSEARCH OCLC databases and catalog The WorldCat section of this site has current connections to over 17,000 OCLC libraries worldwide and over 38,000,000 [38 million items]. A brief study of the record database indicates that approximately 25%-50% or more of the non-circulating book collection, as well as many of the microform collections, in the SLC LDC FHC, is in this OCLC system. If you can access FIRSTSEARCH from a local resouce center and use Interlibrary loan facilities, you will find you may make a tremendous savings in time, talent, means and effective effort in your research projects. Additionally, there are many rare and more expensive scholarly resources that can be obtained via this route that are NOT in the SLC LDS Library. If you set up a rotating request schedule, you may be able to have a constant flow of Interlibrary Loan books arriving at your local library as you advance order. In the case of the UC Davis Shields Library, all patrons within the library have free access to the system. The local Davis Branch of the Yolo County Library System allows free Interlibrary Loan service for four(4) books/microforms at a time, unless there is a fee charged by the sending institution. Thus, in this case, a massive and free worldwide extension of the genealogical research process. Since the loan system obtains records from any depository site that will offer a book/microform for transport, there is a good possibility that you will be able to find what you want delivered locally. This can be, for example, from Princeton University Library [NJ], Seattle, Washington, or somewhere in the State of Virginia, all in the same shipment. The highly restricted LDS Library system is greatly complimented by the active use of this parallel resouce by genealogists and family historians. Respectfully yours, Tom Tinney, Sr. Listed in: Who's Who In The West, 1998/1999 Who's Who In Genealogy and Heraldry, [both editions]

    1. Re: [BROADWATER-L] Charles L. Broadwater
    2. Judy, I have been busy moving & getting settled in a new home, but saved email to answer & yours was one on Charles Broadwater. I am a descendant of Broadwater Matney & as yet have not determined which Broadwater his given name came from. His parents were believed to be William (Broadwater ?) Matney & Jane Brooks, but I haven't been able to prove that yet either. What I have been doing is collecting data on the Broadwater surname, that thank goodness is uncommon & not that many to check early on . I found 2 emigrant families. >From Virginia Historical Magazine pg 234-238 (can't find my notes that give what issue). I found these magazines in a Library. You could do a search for the one with Broadwater in it. "Career of Col. Charles Broadwater, Fairfax Co, VA" by Robert Lee Haycock, Washington D.C. Page 237 "Of an old English family, the father of Charles Broadwater came to Virginia before 1710 from Surry where it is said the home was near the village of Godalmering. The British emigrant was a shipmaster who sailed the Potomac & the James River in trade with England. Frequently he dropped anchor at Belle Haven, the small port which later became Alexandria." Page 238 "Colonel Charles Broadwater, his son, married the widow of Dr. Peairson, whose maiden name was Ann Amelia Markham who descended from an old English family. Charles & Ann had 3 daughters. One of them, Jane, married John Hunter an emigrant from Ayreshire, Scotland, who owned most of the land where the town of Vienna stands today, & called his plantation 'Ayre Hill'. Another daughter, Sallie, married Col. John West, of a prominent family in the history of Fairfax. Charles Lewis Broadwater, a son, was an officer in command of Virginia troops in the Rev. War." Mr Haycock, author of this article, is a descendant thru Jane m John Hunter, whose dau Ann Hunter m Pressley Gunnell & their dau Janet Gunnell m John Haycock. It goes on to tell that lineage. Hope this is of some help. I'd love to exchange more data on this family. I feel quite sure it is tied to my gggrfa's name as James Mattingly who later went by Matney was at Fairfax Co, VA at the same time (1750s) & in court records along with Broadwater, West, Dalton & others that are related later with my lineage. Carol in WA.

    2. Robert Beverly
    3. Bill, William BROADWATER, of Russell/Scott Co., VA is the son of Charles BROADWATER & Nancy _______ of Botetourt Co. VA. Charles b. bef. 1765. Charles "BROADWATERS" appears on enumeration list of NEELLY's District, Botetourt Co., Va. in 1785 with six white persons and one dwelling house. On 1810 census for Botetourt Co., Charles BROADWATER appears with the following: 1 white male under 10, 1 wm 26-45, 1 wm 45 & over; 2 wf under 10, 2 wf 26-45, 1 wf 45 & over; 5 slaves. William had at least one brother and three sisters: John, b. 2/28/1788 Botetourt Co., VA; Martha, b. abt. 1782; Mary (Polly); Peggy. But judging from the census above, it is possible he may have had more siblings. William & John 1st appeared in Russell Co. VA in 1810, where 3 years later on Mar. 3, 1813 John married Winnie KILGORE, dau. of Robert KILGORE, Jr. & Jane PORTER. Martha BROADWATER m. (1) John ANDERSON 1800/1801 Botetourt Co., VA (2) John GRAY. Mary (Polly) BROADWATER m. James EARLY 1807/1808 Botetourt Co., VA. I have been looking for Charles' parents for years and have found nothing concrete. Also I have not a clue as to Nancy's maiden name. If anyone on this list can give me any direction here, I would be most appreciative. 2. Dan
    3. Hi, folks -- I'm Tim Pierce, one of the senior system administrators at RootsWeb. Our main list server, lists.rootsweb.com, has been down since this morning. Brian Leverich is presently hard at work installing a new disk and preparing to reinstall the operating system. Once that's done, Karen Isaacson and I will reinstall the mailing list software and run some tests to make sure that everything is operating smoothly. As long as the system is not working, we're also going to try to take advantage of this down time by preparing a new, faster server for that machine, which is woefully underpowered for the amount of mail that passes through it. Brian will begin building that server while Karen and I get the old one back on the air. We expect to have the server running again by midnight (U.S. East Coast time) and hope to have the backlogged mail cleared out by Sunday morning. Thankfully, we don't believe that any mail has been lost (only delayed), and all of the archives appear to be intact. Thanks to everyone for your patience. And thanks *especially* to all of the RootsWeb Sponsors, Donors and Patrons, whose much-needed funds make it possible for us to have extra hardware on hand for just such an emergency! -- Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative system obfuscator and hack-of-all-trades

    2. Dan
    3. Hello, I have just received word from Rootsweb.com that lists.rootsweb.com is temporarily down. At this tiem, it is unknown how long it will be down. Tim and Brian are working on getting lists.rootsweb.com back as soon as possible. As soon as it is back, listowners-L will be notified. Please hold off on emailing listmaster@rootsweb.com, listowners-l or newbie-listowners about lists.rootsweb.com being unavailable. Rootsweb and listmaster are very much aware that lists.rootsweb.com (possibly your list(s)) is down as Rootsweb is aware of the problem and they are working on fixing it.
