    2. Stellie, Some from my notes on Broadwater: >From Bob Munkres: "Broadwater was my home town. My copy of Nebraska Place Names is at home, but as I recall, the town was named after a Gen. Broadwater. The town was founded in abt 1912 when the railroad was extended up the North Platte Valley. There was a hotel, reputedly very elegant, in Billings, MT. There was an article about the hotel in MT in The Magazine of Western History some years ago. There is also a Broadwater County in MT much of which is located to the east & south of Helena." "As a matter of fact, I'm sitting about 2 blocks from a major street here in Billings named Broadwater. I've not been here long enough yet to know about a hotel, but can check it out." *note: I do not have an address for Mr Munkres. - -------------------------- Data from "Pioneer Families of Missouri" pg 307 Broadwater, Charles L, an Englishman, came to America a short time before start of the Rev War. I live on land he originally owned and went to a grade school named after him. I'll admit that although I'm interested in him, I'm of no relation, just intrigued by the man and would like to know what happened to his descendants. >>

    2. I am searching for a Charles Broadwater, but not the one you are referring to. The one you are searching for, I'm quite sure, originally lived in St. Charles, MO. He was very well known in the area. You might check records there(it was once the capitol of MO) as the area is very steeped in history(Lewis and Clark). Need anymore help, just let me know. Take care, Nancy Walsh

    3. This is a mandatory URL for you all , I absolutly suggest you to try this, its called a cluster , it is a cluster of surnames , made by rootsweb, you click the letter of the surname ; then click the surname ; GUESS what you get the whole website with ; The list, the genconnect and all that ; ALL on one page !! I really thing this will become your main stop to check for names and Genconnects on Rootsweb !! http://resources.rootsweb.com/~clusters/surnames/index.html I think this is one of the best improvements to rootsweb yet !! Have fun ; Enjoy ; Have a great Day :)) Your Host _*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_* Dan Matney Genealogy Communities/Genconnect/Chat rooms http://www.angelfire.com/or/matney -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

    3. A good thing to do is to add it as a signature when you make messages in other places so per chance if there are any Broadwater researchers you dont know about ; will ; see the Link and join the list , this can help it grow, also when you post to places like quest and query boards , give the list link too so others will join you here . Think of good ways to advertise ! 2. Hi Dan, Dont give up...I had volunteered earlier to help out or take over the site with additional help... It seems spring/summer is a quiet time for research, but things could pick up when fall arrives. There arent too many Broadwaters out there and minus the couple of prominent families that documented their ancestry, it appears the Broadwaters were very elusive people. I have spoken to several members who are stuck, like myself, on one ancestor along the same time frame. We assume we are related to these brothers, but will continue trying to climb our brick walls. Follow your conscience, Dan, but I am here to help as I am sure others will too. Take care, Nancy

    2. Bill - Home
    3. Dear Dan, Regarding the activity on the list. How many people subscribe? If it is only a few, 500+ postings is quite a bit over the past year. If it is a large list different questions have to be asked? i.e.: is it part of a normal cycle when people get away from doing genealogy work or are concentrating on other lines? Are people getting results from their postings? If no results are being obtained perhaps they feel that the list is a dead end and go elsewhere. What is working really well for me and my primary list - Newberry-L, is that I have started a Newberry site on MyFamily.com for members of Newberry-L. One of the draw backs to the Surname-L@rootsweb.com is that you can't include attachments. With the volume that that server goes through it's a wise thing to do. However, on the MyFamily site, you can send email, upload pictures to share, upload GED files and have other postings. So, for the most part the Newberry Researchers have two avenues if they want to use both. They can use either one, or neither. Perhaps the Broadwater researchers with the Broadwater last name or others that are very active in researching the line could add an invitation to join their list as part of a "signature" on their normal emails. Another Avenue is adding a link to a Broadwater Web page via Cindi's list. Any hoo, I'm still interested in the list as I am hoping that someone, somewhere will have some information on Sena Broadwater, wife of Cyrus Newberry my 3g grandfather. They were married 6-19-1831 in Crawford, Co. MO. by W.E. Hawkins. JP. I believe her father may have been a William Broadwater but I'm not sure. 3. This list has only had 533 messages in the last 12 months, I am wondering if it worthwhile to keep it up ? Its up to the folks on the list to keep it alive, my list rules are relax and use the list . Be friendly, and dont be a fraid to post . Am I to belive no one has any genealogy to do? Do any of you advertise the list in places you might find more Broadwater people ? If the list stays dead , buy the end of next month I am going to offer the list up for adoption or ask the listowners list if any one wants it . So far this list is backed by my website and any or you who pass it to the internet for those who are realted can find it. _*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_* Dan Matney Genealogy Communities/Genconnect/Chat rooms http://www.angelfire.com/or/matney -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
