    1. Re: [BROADWATER-L]Broadwater List
    2. Hi Shadow, Quite sure there could be connection further back, but even though I live in St. Louis, I have no connection to the Charles Broadwater that lived here. I think he is well documented in history here as he owned a mill that was until a few years ago a refurbished restaurant. The city is St. Charles. I suppose we keep on hunting right? Take care, Nancy

    2. Hey Shadow, What info or area are you searching on BROADWATER? I have limited information on them, as it seems everyone else on this site does also. Unless you are related to the eldest son of the Broadwater of Vienna, VA, there is definitely limited information. Let me know, ok? Nancy Broadwater Walsh

    3. I enjoy all the lists ; I am a slightly shut in Mr Mom ;) so this is my connection to the world, of course we can't give up the list but if nothing else we could allow a little chat so we can get some topics going , For 1 thing any one surfing the web can write in and tell of links where you find things and what you found. You might write about your brick wall and what you have done to try to discover more information . People subscibe to lists and wait for conversation, when there is noe they leave the list, I have no idea why or what they would expect unless they would post something first. Any question you have about Broadwater as a surname or Middle name or as a first name are all valid on this list . OK how about that Carol99 she's is a blessing , she pitch's in and really is a value . Thanks Carol ;) Any one who has not gone to my web site, should see what I am up to, dig around its getting lots of changes, I am adding pages every day. I dont have any good Broadwater stuff to add, when I ge to it all the names will be NAME PLACE as like an address in a comunity ~! I dont mind people making posts , go for it. I am a relaxed list owner ;)) _*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_* Dan Matney Genealogy Community http://www.angelfire.com/or/matney -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- ---------- > From: burnice <bcrosco@iceweb.net> > To: BROADWATER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [BROADWATER-L] Re: BROADWATER-D Digest V99 #50 > Date: Saturday, July 21, 2007 7:51 PM > > Dear List > > I hope to see this list continue. 2. >From booklet "A Sketch of the Broadwater Family and Its Connections" written by Amos Broadwater 1891. Pages 7,8) Amos writes, "My sons all married farmers' daughrters and my daughters all married farmers' sons. My sons and daughters are all living in Garrett County at present. William lives on the old homestead on Savage river and is doing very well. John and Amos live on what is called Pea Ridge and own good farms for mountain farms, and are doing very well for farmers. Jefferson, Peter, Stephen and Eli all live about one mile from me. All own farms and are living in the settlement near New Germany. Jefferson Green and Peter Bittinger live on what is called the Glades, at Meadow Mountain. Peter Bittinger is recommended for being the best worker in that region of the country. Simeon Green lives about three miles from Lonaconing on a farm owned by the company, and he is doing very well. Jacob Blocher lives in the backwoods settlement. He commenced a new farm and is doing well. David lives on the home place and is well to do." Page 8) Amos writes, "I will now give you a small sketch of my grandmother Broadwater, who moved from Loudoun County to Allegany County about the year 1809, and settled on a piece of land called Beatice Plains, and joining lands of Peter Colmer, about three miles from George's creek. There she lived till the day of her death. There was no record of her age, but it is supposed by other people that she was about one hundred years old. She was buried at the Corbis burial ground where her daughter and son lie." Page 16) Amos writes, "My father died at his own residence at Savage river in the year 1859, aged eighty-one years. Mother survived him eighteen years. She died in the 19th day of December 1877, at the age of ninety-one years, three months, and nine days. They are both buried at the farm home, now owned and occupied by his grandson William B. Broadwater." "I will close by saying what a change it has been since I first settled here sixty-five years ago, when there were no roads except a path to the National road, and no houses. The first house built in Wolf Swamp lived Adam Spiker who married Annie Reckner. The first settler in New Germany was William Weitzell. This county was mostly all in woods when I first came here, but the most of it is improved, the early settlers who lived around here are all gone." Page 14-16 "I will give the reader a few names of people who moved from Loudoun County to Allegany County: John Michael and wife, William, his brother, George Smarr, Jim Parris and George Layman." *note: Amos does not give the death of his grandfather Cornelius Broadwater anywhere in the booklet. - ---------------------------------------------

    2. Hi Dan, I realize there isn't much activity on the list, but apparently there aren't many of use out there doing research. Anyway, I would like to see the List continue. However, it isn't fair to expect you to assume the cost of running the List all alone. We all benefit from your efforts and I believe the majority of us would be happy to contribute some dollars toward your expenses. Okay, list members. What do you say? Sara Taylor

I have found out such a little about them. I did hear from someone through your website. However, he couldn't give me anything I didn't have but I was able to help him a little. Where is the information on Broadwater? I sure can't find it. Hope you are able to continue. 2. I like to get mail about the Breakwaters. Cause my g-grandmother was Harriet Breakwater. I've got a whole story on the Breakwaters written by Amos Breakwater in 1891. It's actually a run down on the brothers, sisters, and all the kids that were born to this family. Any way I have made some copy's for other members of the family. If I knew how to use this scanner I would would put it on the net so everybody could read it. Anyway just wanted to say I enjoy hearing about them. I do belong to roots web. I get into alot of sites now. Thank you for listening, mushirl@aol.com
