    3. Researching Broadwaters in Edgefield District, SC. Joseph Broadwater states on the census that he was born in SC in 1858. There is a Joseph aged 2 listed in the household of Scarborough Broadwater II by his second wife Sarah. By 1877 Joseph had moved to Bartow Co. GA where he married Ada Wade. So far this is the only lead I have. His obit in 1912 lists two brothers living in Atlanta - L. A. and A. J. Have not found anything on his siblings. Any leads appreciated. Lynda Wilson

    2. My Brick Wall: Charles M. Broadwater October 10, 1827 Lived in Edgefield, SC until after 1850 when he moved to Alabama. While living in SC, he resided with a Gilchrist family. Unknown what the relation was with this family. There were two "head of households" in Edgefield in the 1850 census, a Charles and a Scarborough. I am hoping one of these could be my Charles' father. Please, anyone with information contact me. Thanks Nancy Broadwater Walsh

    3. << Do you have any data on Tosh & relationship to Broadwater ? >> Only that Chales' daughter Ann married James TOSH. By the way, TOSH is a very important family name in the history of the Roanoke Valley in SW Virginia. As yet I have no data on any of James' and Ann's descendents, assuming there were any. 2. Robert, thanks for sharing this. I've wondered about this family as it connects to the McCulley surname through Tosh. Do you have any data on Tosh & relationship to Broadwater ? Kegley's Virginia Frontier, Beginning of the Southwest - Roanoke Colonial Days 17401783. Index page. 1938. Broadwater: 535 Charles in Capt Neely's Company. (militia) 540 Ann m James Tosh 541 Martha m John Anderson --------- Annals of Montgomery Co, VA, pg 283 1799 Botetourt Co, VA. Order that Elizabeth Page & John McCulley, orphan children, be bound to James Tosh according to law. --------- Carol in WA ----------------------- William BROADWATER, of Russell/Scott Co., VA is the son of Charles BROADWATER & Nancy _______ of Botetourt Co. VA. Charles b. bef. 1765. Charles "BROADWATERS" appears on enumeration list of NEELLY's District, Botetourt Co., Va. in 1785 with six white persons and one dwelling house. On 1810 census for Botetourt Co., Charles BROADWATER appears with the following: 1 white male under 10, 1 wm 26-45, 1 wm 45 & over; 2 wf under 10, 2 wf 26-45, 1 wf 45 & over; 5 slaves. William had at least one brother and three sisters: John, b. 2/28/1788 Botetourt Co., VA; Martha, b. abt. 1782; Mary (Polly); Peggy. But judging from the census above, it is possible he may have had more siblings. William & John 1st appeared in Russell Co. VA in 1810, where 3 years later on Mar. 3, 1813 John married Winnie KILGORE, dau. of Robert KILGORE, Jr. & Jane PORTER. Martha BROADWATER m. (1) John ANDERSON 1800/1801 Botetourt Co., VA (2) John GRAY. Mary (Polly) BROADWATER m. James EARLY 1807/1808 Botetourt Co., VA. I have been looking for Charles' parents for years and have found nothing concrete. Also I have not a clue as to Nancy's maiden name. If anyone on this list can give me any direction here, I would be most appreciative.
