This is a reply to the memo below from "Robin Dean" <[email protected]> ; it is being sent to the BROADHURST and LEICESTERSHIRE lists separately from the original reply because the original had an attachment that would not go through the list-server. So I will try to put it below in readable format, but some of the format may come unstuck. That's one of the difficulties with this sort of process, and fortunately for us it is offset by the advantages of wider communications. Those of you in LEI who are familiar with graves and monuments, your comments on my interpolations of what I think the abbreviations stand for are most welcome. I am not familiar with customs in UK but in colonial U.S. similar abbreviations were used apparently quite randomly, so I have some basis for my guesses. Robin : Many thanks for the information. I have tried to make sense of it, for my use anyway, so I have structured it differently so that it is easier for me to see the relationships. I also tried to make sense of the monument inscriptions by interpolating what I believe they say and to try to connect the relationships. Since it is unlikely that I will get to England anytime soon (no plans anyway), I would be grateful if you would take another look at the census of 1881 and 1891 and 1851 for Broadhurst. That will surely help sort out who is related to whom, etc... How far is Macclesfield from Cheshire? Leicestershire? You comments about a "wet one" there in the Lakes district reminds me that it seems always wet there....but of course I speak from the viewpoint of sunny (and hot and muggy) Florida.... Thanks again.... Art Broadhurst "Robin Dean" <[email protected]> on 07/22/98 02:49:01 AM To: Art Broadhurst/HQ/UIMC cc: Subject: Broadhurst...in Macclesfield. The 1841 records were very hard to read. I need to go again to check the 91/81 census so if I go before you do I will have a look for Broadhursts. I do not think I had made the connection with Broadhurst when I looked at the 91/81 census which would explain it. ----------------------------------------- I found in my folders a number of print I did from the monumental inscriptions and found a couple from Sutton do not know if they are any of yours but you never know... ----------------------------------- Hltbo JAMES BROADHURST of Sutton / wdtl January 27th 1795 / a58y / also MARTHA READ / daughter of JAMES & SARAH BROADHURST / dtl November 1st / a28y / Also SARAH the wife otas JAMES BROADHURST / d March 10th 1808 / a68 / also ELLEN wife of ROGER BROADHURST / d March 10th 1808 / a 68y / also ELLEN wife of ROGER BROADHURST of Macclesfield / wd February 17th 1824 / a57y.
