    1. Call for VOLUNTEERS

    3. Hello everyone, I have taken on another task, and I'm hoping some of you will come forward and volunteer your valuable time to help. Have you heard of the International Internet Genealogy Society? It's practically brand new. Their home page is at: http://www.iigs.org/ (Sometimes it's busy, so keep trying.) The IIGS has a "University" which will be offering free classes to genealogists over the Internet. Of course, every university has a "library"--and that is where I am. I have volunteered to take over the task of coordinator of the library, sort of being the "librarian." We are currently looking for people to assist in the task of building our library archives for the University. We need volunteers for: 1) Link Research This task involves locating links to *public record pages* (e.g., Cemeteries, Libraries, Genealogical and Historical Societies, etc) in specific areas of the world. One researcher might be locating urls for churches in Germany, while another is doing the same for Genealogical Societies in South America. The located links are sent to the person maintaining the appropriate page(s). 2) Web page maintenance for specific regions of the world This task involves knowledge of html and the ability to create and maintain a web page. The shell pages have been set up. When pages are ready, they would be sent to another person for uploading to the IIGS web site. You would not need to find your own web space, create graphics, etc. The link researcher(s) for a region send their links to the web page maintainer as they are found. The maintainer then adds them to the web page, if appropriate, after checking out the page themselves. 3) Records transcribers If you have access to non-copyrighted genealogical material, especially if it has not been published on the web before, we are looking for that type of original material to add to our "stacks". At the present time we have a need for maintainers for the regions of Africa, Asia, and the Island Nations. We need researchers and transcribers for all areas. Please take a look at the University Library pages on the web site and see if this is something you could believe in and be a part of. Volunteers are needed in other areas, too, so if what I've mentioned doesn't suit you, maybe something else will. I know you are all busy, but this is a great project. And I firmly believe that the more you give, the more you will receive. We have an international focus, including the U.S. Right now, I'm trying to find links for Egyptian genealogy!!! I would be delighted to have you as an addition to our team, and look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks so much.
