PATTON-119 ================================================================== I have data on many of the Broaddus family in this country that are in this list. I have to put a "disclaimer" on those early, early ancestors in England and Wales, because I have accepted this as a "study line" for future reference. On those, I can only refer you to those who shared their research with me. It is easy to see, information on the Broaddus family is much more forthcoming than that on the Howard, Pennington and Patton families, since I have worked on them just as long and spent just as many hours. I have collected this material over 35 years of study and research, but there are still places that no one is sure about dates, names and other details. I am so grateful to those who have helped me and thanks to all those who have shared with me in the past and who will in the future. They have given me a "place to start" and an incentive to "carry on". It is as nearly correct as I, at this time, am able to discover. If there are "glitches" here and there, I apologize, but genealogy is an ever-moving, on-going study of the past, and new discoveries are made daily, therefore, please don't hold it against me if you have some information I don't.... Just share it, please. Will be glad to share/exchange what I have on any of these. Thanks. These people all had ties (mostly birth) to Cheshire, U.K. There are 27 names on this list. I believe you can get to this section most directly by using: http://www.flash.net/~judyad/bchesh.html but if you have trouble, you can step your way to it from my main page, URL given below. I have been on the list for some time, but I must confess I have contributed nothing to date. To your list of localities in which descendants of Edward Broaddus live who are seriously interested in the Broaddus/Broadus line, you can add Ontario, Canada, where I live. I am aware of Edward's lineage being traced to the present day through all seven of his sons - Thomas, Richard (my ancestor), John, William, James, Shipley and Robert (or Robin). I would be interested in finding out what information others might have about the ancestry of Edward's first wife. I am indebted to Arthur B. Broaddus in California for information he supplied me suggesting that her full name was Dollwyddelan Gwynn. His source is a manuscript by Curtis and Vashti Evans, which says that a Baptist Minister, named Richard Broadess (sic) living in Thomasville, GA in 1852 left a mss. naming Robert as his father, Tabertha (Tutt) and Tomas Broadess, Sr. as his grandparents, and Dollwyddelan Gwynn and Edward Broadess as his great grandparents. Does anyone have any further confirmation of this? I'm also interested in knowing who plans to publish something on the family. Perhaps we could share information. Ed Broadus

I am the ggranddaughter of Judge Andrew S. Broaddus of Caldwell,TX. I am trying to find some of the descendents of Andrew S. I have a couple different places of burial of the Judge but no marker when I go to check on it. Also my grandfather Edward Kingsford Broaddus I can't find anything on him. I have a lady in Caldwell,TX that is trying to find something on him. If anyone has any info on this part of the family I would really appreciate it. Ginger (Broaddus)Swarts

When I joined this several weeks ago, I understood it was a group for Broadhurst and derivations like Broaddus and Broadus. So far, I have seen one message and it is for a late arriving Broadhurst. This was very interesting to read but did not apply to my family. I know of people in Kentucky, Illinois, Virginia, Texas, and now Alaska who are studying Broaddus and one says he might write a book. So somebody is holding out. I am about to make a short trip but I will throw out a teaser: I am descended from and have a modest amount of information about Edward Broaddus who landed on Gwynns Island, VA and moved to Caroline County, VA in 1715. He had two wives, Mary Shipley and Dolly ?, He had seven children and I can trace one, Robin, to the present day. There were a lot of notorious Baptists (you see, I am not one of them), three who kept Salem Church in VA for 106 years, one helped found the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville and was its president. One led a wagon train of 200 people from VA to Texas and founded a new community. So where are you contributors? James Morrison Stone son of Andrew Broaddus Stone

    3. My Broadhurst family arrived in the US in 1842 from Liverpool. There was Sarah, 52yrs, John 20 yrs, Elizabeth 16 yrs, Samuel 11 yrs, and George 9 yrs. (my g.-grandfather) A few months later James, 28 arrived. I do not find any of these people again until the 1870 census in Howard Co. MD. where most of the their ancestors and my relatives are living today. In that census they were listed as Broadbent. My father always said the family came from Lancashire, Eng. So far I've had no luck. My guess is that the father's name was John, my Dad said Samuel???Like many families--My Dad said that there were 3 or 4 brothers that cvame together, probably just before 1842, then he sent for his family ?? Dad always said we were somehow connected with the Broadhurst Theater in NY. I haven't found that out yet ! My allied families connected with the Broadhurst are: Needler/Kneedler, Boardman and Snowden. Thanks Gloria (Judy., I know I sent this before to the correct address, but I'll try one more time--I told you computers know I'm not sure of what I'm doing-thanks)

    3. Hello everyone, I wanted to let you know that I have requested that our lists be put on a "restricted" status for a while. This means that only those who are subscribed will be able to post to the lists. If a non-subscriber tries to post to a list, the message will come to me. I will either forward it to the list or not, depending upon the content. The reason for doing this is that the spammer who brought down MAISER seems to be at it again. Some of the lists have already been hit with this trash. The suggestion for restricting the lists came from the RootsWeb people themselves, so I am taking their advice. We don't want to lose our lists again. This will cause inconvenience for some people, and for this I am sorry, but I have to do what I can to protect the continuation of our lists. If you have any questions, please e-mail me privately. Thanks for understanding. 3. Hello everyone, I hope you're having a great Sunday afternoon. I apologize to those of you who will receive duplicate messages. Just wanted to let you know that I have signed off of most of the regional lists and many surname lists I belong to because of the volume of mail and needing to spend time on some other things. This won't affect the lists I manage (I'm hanging on to them with a tight fist), but having no access to these other lists, I won't be able to forward the surname-related messages as I have in the past. So. . .I am asking that if you see a message that you believe would interest our subscribers, please forward it to the list. We all can't subscribe to everything, so it helps if we keep an eye out on those lists to which we do subscribe. If you need help in doing a "forward", let me know and I will try to walk you through it. Thanks for the great job you have been doing in sharing information. 1. Call for VOLUNTEERS
    2. Judy Arnold
    3. Hello everyone, I have taken on another task, and I'm hoping some of you will come forward and volunteer your valuable time to help. Have you heard of the International Internet Genealogy Society? It's practically brand new. Their home page is at: http://www.iigs.org/ (Sometimes it's busy, so keep trying.) The IIGS has a "University" which will be offering free classes to genealogists over the Internet. Of course, every university has a "library"--and that is where I am. I have volunteered to take over the task of coordinator of the library, sort of being the "librarian." We are currently looking for people to assist in the task of building our library archives for the University. We need volunteers for: 1) Link Research This task involves locating links to *public record pages* (e.g., Cemeteries, Libraries, Genealogical and Historical Societies, etc) in specific areas of the world. One researcher might be locating urls for churches in Germany, while another is doing the same for Genealogical Societies in South America. The located links are sent to the person maintaining the appropriate page(s). 2) Web page maintenance for specific regions of the world This task involves knowledge of html and the ability to create and maintain a web page. The shell pages have been set up. When pages are ready, they would be sent to another person for uploading to the IIGS web site. You would not need to find your own web space, create graphics, etc. The link researcher(s) for a region send their links to the web page maintainer as they are found. The maintainer then adds them to the web page, if appropriate, after checking out the page themselves. 3) Records transcribers If you have access to non-copyrighted genealogical material, especially if it has not been published on the web before, we are looking for that type of original material to add to our "stacks". At the present time we have a need for maintainers for the regions of Africa, Asia, and the Island Nations. We need researchers and transcribers for all areas. Please take a look at the University Library pages on the web site and see if this is something you could believe in and be a part of. Volunteers are needed in other areas, too, so if what I've mentioned doesn't suit you, maybe something else will. I know you are all busy, but this is a great project. And I firmly believe that the more you give, the more you will receive. We have an international focus, including the U.S. Right now, I'm trying to find links for Egyptian genealogy!!! I would be delighted to have you as an addition to our team, and look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks so much.
