    3. One of my collateral COWAN lines m. into the SWANK family, then a daughter m. into the SCHLEPPY family. One of their daughters, Elsa M., m. Claude BROADERS. I have very little information on this family link. They were probably living in Ohio or Indiana at this time. Are they familiar to anyone? My husband has BROADHURSTs in his ancestors (pronounced now by his elderly aunt in Missouri as "Broadus"). I find it intriguing that there may be a connection to his line back somewhere. 1 Claude Broaders b: 21 January 1890 .. +Elsa M. Schleppy b: 13 May 1890 ..... 2 Carl Broaders ..... 2 Keith Broaders ..... 2 Halden Broaders Thanks. Judy Judy Marshall Arnold - [email protected] Judy's Place - http://www.flash.net/~judyad/

    3. Hello everyone, There are a few Broadus names on the 1810 census listing done by Tim Spence. I didn't see any on the 1820, but you probably should look in case I missed them. Hope this helps. 2. Judy Arnold
    3. Dear listmembers, The only solicitation I do on the lists I manage is that about once a year I ask that, if you can, you send a dollar or two to Rootsweb. For you who have been subscribers for a long time and remember the Maiser demise--these are the folks who picked up the pieces and got the lists going again, at no charge. And everyone should know that if it weren't for the generosity of Rootsweb the lists that receive this message probably wouldn't be in existence. "Rootsweb" is actually a husband-wife team (along with a couple of helpers) who have voluntarily taken on (as second "jobs") the operation of this now huge system. Much of the equipment that we depend on has been purchased with their own money. They have stayed up nights "watching" monitors and servers to protect against outages and spam infestations. They charge nothing to you to subscribe to these lists, but that does not mean it is "free." Everything they so freely share costs money. Read their latest report to listowners below, get an idea of some of what they do, and please support them if you can. Even a couple of dollars from a large number of people will help. If you cannot support them at this time, please keep them in your thoughts for the future. There are many calls on our finances, but for us researchers, this is a very worthwhile one. Thank you for reading. 3. I am trying to trace my roots; I'm new to this site and to trying to trace my family. In my branch I think I am the only surviving Broadhurst male and I did not inherit much information because my father died when I was young and my grandfather died before I was born. But here is what I know so far that I can verify: My father: Joseph J. C. Broadhurst (b.1894 Lowell MA-d. 1939 Norwich CT), son of: John Thomas Broadhurst (b. 1866 Nova Scotia-d. 1930 Norwich CT), son of James Broadhurst (b. 1839? Ashby de la Zouch, England-d. 1898 Halifax, Nova Scotia), son of (John?) Broadhurst, lived in Ashby de la Zouch. Any help appreciated. I would like to try to sort out the family history and origins. 3. I'm a new subscriber, seeking information from anyone who can help. I'm trying to track my family roots on my father's side, obviously, and here's what I know: my father Joseph J. C. Broadhurst (b. 1894 Lowell, MA--d. 1938 Norwich CT); his father John Thomas Broadhurst (b. 1866 Sherbrooke, Canada--d. 1930 Norwich CT; his father James Broadhurst (b. circa 1839 in Ashby de la Zouch, midlands of England, came to Canada with British 17th Regiment as color sergeant, mustered out and stayed in Canada, d. June 3, 1898 Halifax, N.S.; that's where the trail ends, I know only that his father was native of Ashby de la Zouch, first name unknown, family records says he had a sister named Eldridge.... There are Canadian relatives, but I am the only surviving Broadhurst in this line and have no way to get other information.... Can anybody help fill in the pieces? Arthur G. Broadhurst, 1046 22nd Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32960; reply to [email protected] Thanks....

    3. Hello everyone. Here's some food for thought that I received on another list. 1. Virus HOAXES
    2. Judy Arnold
    3. Hello folks, Apparently we're in for another cycle of virus HOAXES. Please check out the following sites before you post or forward any message about viruses. And then, I would even ask you to send me a message in private so that I can do some checking before it's put out on the list and everyone's mailbox begins to fill up. http://www.av.ibm.com/BreakingNews/HypeAlert/PENPAL/ http://cc.weber.edu/~dsass/articles.html http://www.ncsa.com/virus/ Everyone who posts or forwards messages about viruses means well (except the person who starts them around again), but for the most part they are just old, rehashed versions of false information which should NOT be spread to the lists. Besides--if you do post about one of these hoaxes, you will get lots of mail in your own mailbox from people who tell you it is a hoax--in varying degrees of politeness. I speak from experience! So let's not panic. Just like newspapers, everything you see on the internet--even surname mailing lists--is not true. Please either check it out, or ask me to do so. Thank you for your cooperation. 3. Hello everyone, I've just done some minor updating to my Query Page: http://www.flash.net/~judyad/queries.html and thought I would take this opportunity to remind the "oldies" and tell the "newbies" of its existence. I will accept queries for any surname on my genealogy page, not just those shown on the Query Page. I would ask that you put QUERY: and the surname in the subject line if you contact me. My genealogy page can be found at: http://www.flash.net/~judyad/gene.html Click on "surnames" to see the many that are there. There is a link to the Query Page from there also, so you may want to go there first. Does anyone know whether it has much Broaddus family information, and, if so, which branch? I received some information from Hauk Data Services about their publication, "Descendants of Edward Broadus of Virginia," Fifth Edition. They claim to have information on over 1800 descendants, done in a modified register format. Price: $25.00. I've only seen the book once and didn't have time to examine it at length. Some of us who have been doing Broad(d)us research have more names of descendants than they have, but it might be something some who read this are interested in. The Hauk catalogue lists around 200 titles. Another of interest is the one on descendants of Thomas Gaines, and would assume this might include the several members of the Gaines family who married Broadduses. The address for Hauk Data Services is 1885 Arrowhead Trail, Huntington, IN 46750. They will send a catalogue upon request. Ed Broadus
