Hi, I have a question. When I travel on my vacation, I always look up for any Broadhurst's in the phone book. Is it rude to give them a call, just to say that I am a Broadhurst and where I am from? I am a new subscriber to the Broadhurst mailing list. I have some information on Professor Robert A. Broadhurst of Midway Kentucky. I saw a Beth Carroll on the listing from a few years ago. I would like to see if I can connect with her in regard to some pictures she had in an album. I believe she is not related to him. If anyone is interested in pursuing this line I have some information which I am sharing. This is not all that I have, but may help those who are interested to connect to me. He was the principal of the Kentucky Female Orphan School in Midway Kentucky, 1858 -1871. He was 59 years old in the 1870 census. Mary Louise Broadhurst Hopkins gave the place of her father's birth as Wales. This was from her 1880 census. Mattie Broadhurst, born about 1840 and wife of John S. Stapp; married 20 Dec 1859 in Woodford, Kentucky. 2. William Allen Broadhurst, born 10 Oct 1842, Stanford, Lincoln, Kentucky; died 2 Apri 1892, Jefferson, Kentucky Married to Mildred Olivia Dale, 26 Dec 1865 3. She married Alexander Campbell Hopkins, 25 Feb 1869. I have pictures and information on her line with Alexander Campbell Hopkins. I am looking for any and all information on Robert Augustus Broadhurst and his wife, who we believe is Charlotte J. Broadhurst. We received some of our information from Midway College, which is the name of the Kentucky Female Orphans School. Dear Pauline - The area in the Midlands primarily Cheshire-Derbyshire-Leicestershire seems to have been home to quite a few Broadhurst families who are currently trying to track their ancestry, including those from US and Australia. To connect with these folks please share what you know -- names, dates, places -- to give people a chance to respond and share their information. What I do know is that the John Broadhurst I have been researching was born in 1866 in New mills, Derbyshire, to father John (born 1833) and mother Mary. He marreid Susannah Greenwood/Duckworth and she was the sister of my great grandmother which is why I ended up with the Broadhurst connection while I was researching her. John (born 1866) had 2 brothers William born in 1864 and James born in 1868 possibly they had children who were the direct relations to the people you are looking for. John also had 2 sisters but then through marriage the names would have changed so I would think you could look at these 2 brothers and possibly trace their lines down unfortunately I dont have info on who they married but as far as I know they were born in New Mills. If I come up with anything else I will let you know, sorry I can't be of more help. Good Luck Helen. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
