Hello, I found the end to the story earlier. (This one isn't the same Henry, Michael, ours lives in Liverpool later in life and is married to Matilda/Nina Lichtenstein) In about 1852 many of the Magnus family emigrated to Australia. In 1855 Samuel Magnus (it would seem that Samuel is Simon from Henry's marriage certificate after all) killed his wife Miriam, according to Australian records. I'd already found Henry in digs with his future brother in law, aged 14, back in London. But by that time he was calling himself Solomons. Thanks everyone for your help- several things people told me earlier eliminated possible Magnus family members! But the best hint was Linda's- the census had a son called "Jennie" who turned out to be a badly transcribed "Louis". B
