    3. Many thanks to Barbara, Linda, Susan, Ann - and anyone I may have missed. So much material to absorb from listers on and off the board - an overload even for my quite large screen! As some of you have discovered both Adrian S [I did not know he had middle names before] and 'Sligs' were most interesting in very different ways. I had a lot of info on Sligs, though not the entry in Palgrave, but coincidentally tomorrow I'll be in the Bodleian for the first time in ages and they have it. I've only read one of Adrian's books, again in Bod, and if anyone wants a ripping yarn that's also true they are a great read. What I hope to do it connects Adrian to Sligs: you people have provided a lot of family info on Adrian and I see his grandfather was the banker Isaac Seligman. I have just a slight feeling that there were were also bankers in Charles [Sligs] Seligman's family, but all I have are his parents [Herman, the wine merchant, 1835-89] and his mother [Olivia Mndez da Costa]. She is not on my research list though I do have more on hsomewhere. Interestingly she was descended from Emanuel Mendez da Costa, who became, in 1747, the second Jewish Fellow of the Royal Society and was later its Secretary, so it is interesting that Sligs also became an FRS [as was his brother-in-law Redcliffe Salaman]. Any further help in linking the two Seligman lines, or showing there is no link, would be wonderful, as if there is no link the photo of Adrian in the family album would have to be for 'professional' reasons. Cheers, Colin
