    1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] family joke
    2. Mrs Mansefield
    3. When I read about Abrahams the "fish curer" I was reminded of Morris Abrahams ( b 1844) who was married to an Anna Solomons. When their daughter Marie Therese was married in 1892 Morris was described in the second edition in The Era as a "dust collector" but he was in fact a diamond merchant, and previously a tavern owner, which was correctly reported the first time. This Abrahams family flirted with diamonds and theatre, as did the Isaacs who later became Barnato, and they were closely connected through partnerships and marriages. Morris Abrahams was so well known that there could have been no mistake. I am sure this was a family joke as many of these characters belonged to The Eccentrics Club and had a great love of practical jokes which papers like The Era enjoyed reporting. I don't know if there is any connection to the Kaisers.... Morris' son Harry was b 1878 was a property and stock agent. When I did some research on Charles Solomon and sons, the musicians I felt there was probably a marriage and theatre connection, and I would be glad to hear what it is, although it is not my line and I have not pursued it. There was a Clara Hyams who married another Morris Abrahams (b 1834) and they were part of this vast Abrahams family, theatre people, comedians, singers and tavern owners. Ann Jensen Music Halls
