    3. Hi all, I recently discovered a Jewish branch in my tree and am hoping someone can help me proceed as I have never done Jewish genealogy research before. The info I have is: Lipman Myers, dates unknown, living in Prussia had children: 1- Henry Francis Myers (c.1811, Prussia – dec1864, Clifton, England) 2- Alfred Moritz Myers (c.1812, Prussia – 10feb1880, England) 3- Louis Myers (1820, Prussia – after 1861, England) 4- “Several brothers and sisters” It may be possible Lipman's wife's maiden name was "Moritz" due to their son Alfred's middle name. All 3 sons moved to the Liverpool, England area. At least 2 of them converted to Christianity (the first two). How would I take the tree back further? English marriage certificates do not list the mother's names. English death certificates do not list parents names. Most Jewish surname databases require the city or country the family lived in but Prussia never seems to be an option and could mean Germany, Poland, Lithuania or Russia. *Any* info at all would be *greatly* apprecaited. Thanks! -- Kami

    3. Kami, Welcome to the list. Please tell us where you are! I think there is a clue in the 1871 census for Alfred (Crab & Lobster Hotel, Ventnor, Hants.) because it says Nat Brit Sub. The fact that you believe he converted is immaterial as a Naturalisation application will give you the place of birth. That said, I can't find him on the list. However, there is a Henry from Russian Poland in June 1861, a Louis from Prussia in Feb 1866 and there is a Morris from Prussia in Aug 1869. See http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/searchresults.asp?SearchInit=0&txtsearchterm=Myers&txtfirstdate=1861&txtlastdate=1871&txtrestriction=HO&hdnsorttype=Reference&image1.x=46&image1.y=12 (This URL will split and you need to make sure you have it all) BTW If anyone suggests to me AGAIN using a site that makes URLs smaller I will scream, so please don't! >From the above link you can click on each item and then have options to order the items remotely or obviously visit if you are close enough, hence it helps to know where you are.
