Listers, Would any one be able to do a lookup in the Jewish Chronical for anything on Zalig Hart [fishmonger]please? He very likely would be my g/g/grandfather. He had a connection to the Great Synagogue of London. My g/grandfather Benjamin [b1851] was married in the GSL in 1875 before bringing his family to Australia. Not having a subscription to JC it seems I can't read the pages I would like to. Regards to all, Ray
Dear Ray, I 'phoned the United Synagogue Burial office, who tried very hard to locate Zalig's grave (date of death 17/10/1881, poss forenames Zalig/Zelig/Solomon) but to no avail. His infant grandson Zalig Lionel Hart was buried at Willesden, about 10 years later, but we can't infer the grandfather's cemetery from that. I wonder if he could have been buried by the Federation or Progressive movements? I have realised also that the Zalig Hart I had on my tree as the son of Zalig, is actually his grandson, son of Morris/Moses and Martha nee Aaron. The squiggel on the census says g/son. I'll contact you separately about further research I've been doing.
