Dear Debbie Your ISAACS don't seem to be related to my ISAACS, but I would add one more possible place to your thinking - New Zealand. Although not the time of the big NZ gold rushes, people did come out here to make their fortunes. I don't have all may CDs available at the moment, but one on-line source is the "Otago Nominal Index" http://marvin.otago.ac.nz/oni/. This is a collection of names that Dunedin genealogical researchers have collected. It often has interesting information. It lists a "Joseph ISAACS", age "over twenty", occupation " brassfounder" in the 1893 Electoral Roll. There are (of course) numerous Joseph ISAACS around, but if you have a good high speed internet link it might be worth having a search in Papers Past (http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz) - a collection of (largely searchable) 19th century NZ newspapers.
