Dear Ray, Welcome back. Again-please say where in Oz you are! Personally, I think you are asking the wrong questions in order to find the grave of Zalig HART. Presumably you know his death was registered in Dec qtr 1881 Hart Solomon Talig 67 Kensington 1a 6 Have you tried the US burials database or contacting them directly to see if they can find a burial plot for Solomon/Zalig? http://www.theus.org.uk/support_services/find_your_family/burial_records or have you looked at Gaby and Angela's FABULOUS GenPals site http://www.genpals.co.uk/cemeteryproject/index.php Both of these are linked from our website www.british-jewry.org.uk where you will find other information and tips which may be of help. Question 1 You say did Mary Ann die, but surely if you have the marriage certificate for Zalig and Hannah you know that? Either it says widower or it says divorcee? Question 2 A bit of basic census research tells us that Mary Ann was alive and living as Zalig's wife in 1861 census. She's still there in 1871, the writing is terrible and she is indexed as Harmeth! But I checked it and it's definitely them. So, from that I searched the BMD deaths from March 1871 to Sept 1878, registered in Middlesex (I took a chance that she was not away from home). There are a few possible entries: Dec 1875 HART Mary Anne 43 Marylebone 1a 381 Mar 1876 HART Mary Ann 56 Shoreditch 1c 125 June 1876 Hart Mary 54 Whitechapel 1c 234 Mar 1878 HART Mary Ann 48 Marylebone 1a 444 Question 4 I don't see Hannah in 1891 census so guess she either died or remarried. There are some possible deaths for her in the period 1881-1891. Question 3 This is like asking how long is a piece of string. It's not a fair question. To start with how do we know which of the many JOEL and MYERS families you are referring to? We don't have the marriage details to know who the fathers of these women were, or where they were born or when (although as I have looked them up on the censuses I have some ideas, it's not fair to expect all list members to take the time to do this for you). Please be more specific. Hope this gives you some starting points and feel free to come back to us when you have more details to give us to try to help you. Best, Sherry (Duty Admin) in 23170 Viersat, FRANCE I'm having difficulty finding the grave site of my g/g/grand father. His name; Zalig Solomon Hart b.1818. Married; #1 Mary Ann Joel on the 28/7/1844 at 2 Stoney Lane, Algate. #2 Hannah Myers on the 14/9/1878, in the Great Synagogue of London. He had 8 children by which wife I don't know. Questions. 1 Did Mary die? 2 If so when? 3 Who were the Joel and Myers families? 4 When did Hannah die? I was hoping that finding Zalig's grave site might go some way to answering my questions.
Dear Sherry, You ask where I am, for now lets just say I'm in Victoria and if you wish any more than this I'd ask you to go to another email address [rmbhart@gmail.com]. Forgive my vagueness when it comes to questions I am housebound due to Syringomyelia [similar to MS] and self taught in my hobby of genealogy. On a pension there is very little that can be set aside for shocking price of certificates, transcriptions, and exchange rates. Therefore I rely very heavily on my internet friends. I dislike my situation as all my life I have worked as a contractor/tradesman, doing for myself and family, rather than being reliant on others. Genealogy is a form of therapy for me and I work at it from about 9am to 5pm with a break for lunch, since about 2002. Thank you for your research on my behalf. I will take careful note of the things said and try to apply them. My best wishes, Ray Sherry Landa and Russell Johnson wrote: > Dear Ray, > > Welcome back.
