Good afternoon, We are opening a new line of enquiry and seeking information on the life of Hyman BERKOVITCH and his wife Rachel (nee Lebowitz), both born in a village near Iase(Jassy) Romania around 1877-1880. Driven from their homeland as many others, we believe they married before arriving in the east end of London around 1900-1905. Hyman was a carpenter and started to find work in this trade. At some stage he entered into partnership with Harry SIBELSKY, and they traded as wood-turners under the name SIBELSKY & BERKOVITCH at 7 Edward Terrace, Drysdale street, Hoxton, London N1 This arrangement was formally dissolved in 1927. Hyman and Rachel Berkovitch had six children between, we think, 1908 to 1926. they bwere Barnet (Barney), Esther, Lily, Louis, Milly and Herschuel(Harry)the latter born at St Agnes Terrace, Hackney Feb 1926. Esther married a Mr Stoppler (spelling?) Lily married Alfred Posner Milly married Joe Payne They probably moved house many times around the east end of London. We would be delighted to hear from anyone who has knowledge of any of these folk - addresses, relationships, dates, origins and earlier family etc. Hyman Berkovitch died in london 1941/2 and his widow Rachel in 1953. Many thanks in advance. Alan Booth, Glos
