    1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] MYERS/ISAACS FAMILIES

    3. Hi Sherry Thank you for your response. According to the Leeds Burials Peter Simon (Philip) MYERS was buried at Hill Top Cemetery in 1889 at the age of 78. His wife Charlotte MYERS died in 1902 at the age of 85. These dates immediately differ from the ones they give in the censuses - but given what must have been 'great ages' for the time in which they lived...... Now to the ISAACS. I have two families headed by an Emanuel ISAACS, the question being which one did Charlotte MYERS nee ISAACS belong to. My starting point is her marriage in the Great Synagogue, Dukes Place, London to Peter Simon MYERS in March 1838. In the Census of 1841 and living at Fishers Alley Emanuel born about 1791 wife Catherine 1796 Benjamin 1821 Elias 1826 Hannah 1826 Sarah 1826 Rachael 1829 Maria 1831 Henry 1831 Julia 1834 In the Census of 1841 and living at St Mary Axe Emanuel Isaac(son) 1786 (the addition of 'son' being a transcription error) wife Maria (nee Magnus - Census 1851) 1796 Esther 1819 Joseph 1821 Caroline 1823 Whilst the Census of 1841 was just three years after Peter Simon and Charlotte's marriage, neither address is the ones on the Marriage Certificate of No 1 Union Street, Bishopsgate Street, or her spouses address of 4 Grove Street, Commercial Road. I would love to be able to establish which family Charlotte belonged to. With regard to the MYERS (father Simon and son Peter Simon) I have no clue as to where or when they arrived from Poland, the name of the town they came from, or what happened to their wife/mother. Peter Simon's father Simon MYERS failed to fill in any census form and I have no clues as to whether there are any other family members. I await any thoughts or direction. 3. Hello Angela, Sorry for the delay, been busy. Well, we know that Peter Simon MYERS was in UK by 1838 because of the marriage. We can't be sure his father ever came to UK, can we, so the fact he is not on the census could simply be he wasn't here to be enumerated. I have a possible brother for Peter Simon in the form of a Morris MYERS who married sarah FULLER in 1825 at the Great Synagogue (London). Presumably you have already tried searching the National Archives website for any possible naturalisation (I know we have no reason to think Peter Simon (Philip) naturalised but it never hurts to just "check it out" in case). Maybe trying to research Morris MYERS would be a way to go. Either he's not a brother and you can discount him, but if he is then perhaps he will help narrow the POB etc for Peter.
