Dear Louise, I too have cause to wonder about this family. I note that they almost certainly changed the surname to MARTIN. This seems to be the case with Hannah Martin who married a Philip Solomon And had at least one daughter called WELcome. I cant't find any birth or anything fo Philip,save for the fact that he was married in the GS. Welcome was born in 1837 and became my ggm. I recall being told as a child that the name comes from the Potugues Name BEMVENIDA (or welcome in English) This was the name of Hannah's Mother who was married to Aaron Nunes Martines. I have not been able to work out much more as both families Solomon,Martin and Nelson were all in the habit of following custom and naming offspring after another family member.
