    1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] Dove Martines in Gravesend
    2. Alfred and Louise
    3. Dear Listers, I have been trying to disentangle a mystery lady called Dove Martines, or Martin Nunes Martines. I have been working with the Bevis Marks records and there are three. The one I am researching is probably the daughter of David and Sarah Nunes Martines born in about 1798. who may have ended her days in the sephardi alms houses in Devonshire Street, E. However, I found another one in the 1841 Census at Star Street, in Milton Gravesend , Kent. With her she had various sisters, Hannah, Abbey, Sarah and Rebecca. All the Nunes Martines and Abendana families gave their children the same names! Dove was 30 in this census but living with her were various small children including Celia Abendana aged 9 ( probably my great grandmother Sarah Celia who married Michael Hart) and her sister Esther aged 5. I wonder if this place was some kind of Jewish orphanage... as I cant think why there should be so many small children from different families living into his place. Does anyone have any answers. with best wishes, Louise (London) researching NUNES MARTINES,RODRIGES RIBEIRO. ABENDANA, HART
