    2. Peter Nelson
    3. HI, I heve several Certificates for the Nelson Family which give the residential address of 41 Chiswell St London In 1854 Or thereabouts. Qestions How do I ascertain ownershio/leaseholding for that address ? Does anybody know where on the St it was located and what it is now? Perhaps it was bonbed duing the war? or perhaps as been rebuilt as a business. Any Ideas on how to get more info apprecited. Peter Nelson Sydney

    3. Hi Peter, You can see where Chiswell Street is on the following map: http://www.londontown.com/LondonStreets/chiswell_street_46e.html#MAP The old building of BP was on Ropemaker St and Moor Lane. I believe part of BP is still off of Ropemaker St, but closer to Moorgate (in that big square?). If I remember right, very windy! There was a Brewers on Chiswell Street - Whitbread, I think. Possible at 52 Chiswell Street. If you are interested, Chiswell Street met Beech Street at Whitecross Street, where I used to live. Sundial Court seems to be at 38-42 Chiswell Street 41 Chiswell Street seems to be part of the old Whitbread brewery. I did like going pass there, especially when they were brewing - you could really smell the hops. I used to love watching the big Shire horses pull the drays - the stable would have been opposite the actual brewery. I don't know how long the brewery was there for, but I believe a very long time. Some history of Whitbread Brewery can be found at: http://www.whitbread.co.uk/index.cfm?id=our_history Enjoy Michele Skehill Toronto, Ontario, Canada where I wish winter was over! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Nelson" <pne25074@bigpond.net.au> To: "british-jewry" <british-jewry@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 24, 2008 4:00 PM Subject: [BRITISH-JEWRY] London Addresses > HI, > I heve several Certificates for the Nelson Family which give the > residential address of 41 Chiswell St London In 1854 Or thereabouts. > Qestions > How do I ascertain ownershio/leaseholding for that address ? > Does anybody know where on the St it was located and what it is now? > Perhaps it was bonbed duing the war? or perhaps as been rebuilt as a > business. > Any Ideas on how to get more info apprecited. > Peter Nelson > Sydney > Our website is at > www.british-jewry.org.uk > We update regularly.
