Dear all, I am hoping someone with far more knowledge than me can help me with a couple of questions. I have been trying to find my Great Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandmother Philip Phillips and Annie/Hannah Moss as some of you may have noticed. I can not find their marriage certificate and I can't find their burial, their names are too common to find on census pre marriage.......if it wasn't for that I was here it's as if they didn't exist! I am not totally convinced my GG Grandfather was Jewish as he was born South Wales between 1840 and 1845 (although parents could have been travelers), all the children of Philip and Annie Phillips were married in East London Synagogue. My questions are: 1. If a father is not of the Jewish faith would the offspring be 'allowed' to marry in a synagogue if their mother is Jewish, or would father have to convert? 2. Was the East London Synagogue part of the United Synagogues and therefore, there might be Hebrew marriage certificate or marriage authorization which may give me both Philip and Annie's Hebrew names and thereby their parents. Thanks for your patience with my never ending searching for my Philip's line Debbie Bozkurt Outer Hebrides www.jacobstree.co.uk
