Debbie I own the book, The Western Synagogue through Two Centuries (1761-1961), by Arthur Barnett, long-time Minister there. It was published by Vallentine-Mitchell, in London 1961. The book is very informative but does not contain a list of early marriages, births or burials. However there are many short biographies which help to breathe life into the story of the various congregations that existed during 200 years. Debbie, the book you describe was written by Dr Cecil Roth, who did an inventory of the records of the Western Synagogue in 1932. The inventory (includes minutes, registers, account books, and other valuable records) was incorporated as an appendix to Barnett's book. Unfortunately many of the records (but not all) were destroyed in the German bombing of the Alfred Place Synagogue in 1941. There is a very informative note on the Synagogue in the JCR-UK section of the JewishGen website. The Synagogue eventually merged with the Marble Arch Synagogue, which has its own web site. Regards from a wet Sydney.
