    1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] Charles & Elizabeth
    2. Steve Lewis
    3. First I want to thank those who offered assistance and suggestions in my search ... and particularly Elly Smith whose suggestion has come up trumps. I just received the birth certificate for Charles and Elizabeth's son Lewis LEWIS and at the time of his birth in 1878 they were living at the same address as they were in the 1881 census which reassures me that I have the right person. Better still, his parents are recorded as Isaac LEWIS and Elizabeth née EMANUEL. This confirms that Charles and Isaac are the same person. Goodness knows why he and Elizabeth/Beysey have to keep changing their names on all these records - didn't they think of the confusion it would cause me later! Thank goodness they left this one piece of evidence that links their identities together. Now that quandry is behind me, I just have to identify Charles/Isaac's parents. As I think I mentioned before his father was recorded as Levy LEWIS on his marriage certificate, but no such person seems to exist, at least not of an age that could have fathered Charles/Isaac in 1845. With the family rumour that he changed his name from Levy, it seems my best bet is to assume he started life as Isaac LEVY and perhaps record his father's name that way to somehow reflect the name change. Any suggestions as to how I might go about finding his parents will be very grateful received. Steve
