Louise's mention of the Haris family reminds me that a few years ago I was researching an English HARRIS family. The parents were Joseph and Rachel (COSTA) Harris. They married in 1821. One of their children, Leah eventually emigrated to the United States where she married Adolph SUTRO. Sadly theirs wasn't a happy marriage. She died in 1893, hence unable to see her husband become the second Jewish mayor of San Francisco (1895-97). Sutro himself died the following year. Leah had an older brother, Morris, who moved to Dublin and became friendly with James Joyce to the extent that Morris featured in Joyce's novel Ulysses. Ahh, nothing like a bit of trivia! Enjoy! I've got a David Harris who married Hannah da Costa (daughter of Dan and Sarah) in 1894 - unlikely but any connection? David L.
