    3. Dear Brian, I suggest you contact the Suwalki Lomza Interest Group as they publish data about Suwalki Lomza people. You can become a member by contacting Marlene Silverman, Box 228, 3701 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington DC, 20008, USA. Suwalki gubernia was in NE Poland, but part of it went into Lithuania after 1918. Suwalkers commonly came to UK relatively early - mostly in 1860's and 1870's. Mine came over in 1865 to avoid outcomes of 1863 Polish uprising against the Russian rulers, and then again in period 1868-1872 to avoid several years of famine and crop failure when food was in short supply. Their closeness to the Baltic (next to Konigsberg in East Prussia now Kaliningrad) enabled escape. Suwalkers also commonly went to Northern England and Scotland - mine went to Hull (and later Grimsby and Sheffield), Edinburgh, Liverpool and Manchester. There were others who went to South Wales. David Baddiel (who appeared in Who did you think you are?) had ancestors who went from Konigsberg to Swansea, so Swansea attracted people from that area. Brian should be aware that Suwalki can refer to either the town or Gubernia (County or Province). His ancestor most likely came from a town within the Gubernia. If his ancestor naturalised, then he should be able to find out more details e.g. such as last names, family members and town of origin (my father's family came from near Augustow). . See naturalisations online at National Archives. I also have photos of towns in the area (incl Suwalki town) from a visit in 2000. Jill Whitehead On Editorial Committee of Landsmen, journal of Suwalki Lomza Interest Group. (With three and possibly four great grandparents from Suwalki Lomza gubernias) Referring to: "I am looking for info on a John Myers, born in 1856--probably in Suwalki, Russia (now Poland), died in 1916, married to Deborah Golubska Myers, residing in London in the 1891 census, but by 1901 had moved to Swansea, Wales. I would like to know his original name (both common and surname). His wife, Deborah, was a sister to my wife's great-grandmother. Thanks if you or anybody has info on that Myers family. Brian Neil Burg Fullerton, CA (where the temperature has been in the 90's this week) "
