Thanks for some help re some other witnesses in the trial of Davis Gordon. The defence witnesses gave a series of statements re some minor transactions with the defendant. Zyman's I quote below; I am now intrigued as to what type of benches he wanted; I surmise turner's benches on which lathes would be mounted; Censuses describe him as an Employer, but I have no details of employees; in1880s he had two addresses in street directories, so he may have had several lathes, but I am puzzled that he could use 5 lathe benches. This is trade history rather than genealogy - but related. Does anyone have ideas about the benches? ZYMAN DIAMOND .
