David, The Old Bailey record says he had been a butcher for 20 years. Perhaps he was born ca 1765 rather than ca 1775? My Ralph Lazarus married Polly/Mary Moses in 1796 per the Great Syn. records, and his father was Moshe Defoe (from his Hebrew name). Possibly, I don't have any birth (or death) records for Ralph Lazarus. I imagine that people were apprenticed into a trade young, the trial says since 14. But I think that it was a witness who had been a butcher 20 years, not Ralph. Surprisingly, Ralph does not get to answer questions himself, only other witnesses. David Levy
