    2. David, The Old Bailey record says he had been a butcher for 20 years. Perhaps he was born ca 1765 rather than ca 1775? David Puycelsi The dates match more or less, but I know my Ralph died young, before 1809. It's possible he had other children I don't know about. My Ralph Lazarus married Polly/Mary Moses in 1796 per the Great Syn. records, and his father was Moshe Defoe (from his Hebrew name).     3. Possibly, I don't have any birth (or death) records for Ralph Lazarus. I imagine that people were apprenticed into a trade young, the trial says since 14. But I think that it was a witness who had been a butcher 20 years, not Ralph. Surprisingly, Ralph does not get to answer questions himself, only other witnesses. David Levy

I never before thought that a butcher could recognise his own cuts.
