    1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] Leeds phone number
    2. jeremy frankel
    3. Dear Naomi, I'm not sure there is anything missing in between the 326 and the five digit number but you did neglect to include at the front end, the code for dialing out international. 44 is the UK country code. So the rest looks okay. Also, I assume you have "dropped" any zeros which are used when dialing internationally, ie, 208 instead of 0208 for outer London. Hope this helps. From yet another warm sunny (earthquake-free(!) day in California Jeremy

    1. Re: [BRITISH-JEWRY] Hiram as Jewish name ?
    2. I recently wrote about the Ontario birth of an illegitimate child of someone I took to be Jewish, but now I realise I might be mistaken. The father's name was Hiram LAWRANCE. I was being single-minded as I was looking for my LAZARUS family who used variations of LAWRENCE/LAURANCE as their surname. Hiram is a Hebrew name, but it doesn't appear to have been used much by Jews and I was probably confusing it with Hyam. The point was that the mother's surname was FORSTER, a FORSTER later was called to aliyah in Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto, and I made the leap that the this man was the baby. Can anyone tell me anything about the usage of the name Hiram among Jews ? Also, am I correct in believing that Jno on documents stands for John ? Eve - not looking forward to the next storm in Toronto
