Dear Dr. Kirby and fellow listers, I note the surnames BARNETT and MYERS in your family. They are also in my wife's family tree. One John MYERS appears in the 1891 London census with wife Deborah, her mother Sarah JOSEPHSON (widowed), nephew-in-law Lazarus BARNETT and an adopted daughter whose name looks like Rachel COIS!?! Now, all these people were recent immigrants (except for Rachel, who was born in Bethnal Green, London), and, if there is any connection to your family, I have the following additional links back to Russia (now Poland): everyone came from the city of Suwalki. I do not know if John's original name was Myers, but I doubt it. However, I do know that Deborah was born Doba GOLUBSKA. Her mother Sarah was born Sore KRZYWULSKA, and she married Josiel GOLUBSKI. Sarah's son's Israel (Isser) and Marcus (Shlomo Mordecai) first immigrated to Sundsvall, Sweden, where they adopted the surname JOSEPHSON. Lazarus was born Lazar Myer TYLZANSKI, and he adopted the name BARNETT in England. Unfortunately, I know nothing about the adopted daughter. In the 1901 census, Deborah MYERS is still in London, listed as married, but her husband is not listed. Instead, she has a son-in-law apparently named Flora (hard to read the name), and, staying with her also is Deborah BARNETT (my wife's grandmother). Deborah was born Doba TYLZANSKA in Suwalki. The MYERSes and BARNETTs would all be settled in Swansea, South Wales by 1910. (Deborah BARNETT married Jacob BARNETT at the Goat Street Synagogue in Swansea in 1907. Jacob was born Jankel Girsz CHAJKIELSON in Suwalki, and he and Deborah TYLZANSKA were second cousins. It gets confusing, because both the TYLZANSKI and CHAJKIELSON family lines adopted the surname BARNETT upon immigration to England.) I know very little about the MYERS family line other than the above, but it is clear that John and Deborah MYERS were married prior to coming to England and they must have come from Suwalki. Does any of this ring a bell with anybody on this list? I also discovered new data in the Colyer Fergusson collection relating to the connection between the Abraham Cohen De Lara family and my Crawcour relatives. In the will summary of 1830 recorded by Colyer Fergusson he records Abraham Cohen de Lara of Batty St Commercial Road leaving bequests to his wife Mary and daughter Simha wife of Isaac Crawcour and her 8 children. Abraham also left bequests to his grandaughter Dinah wife of Moses BARNETT and grandaughter Maria daughter of Joseph JOSEPH; niece Jael? Coronel wife of Isaac SEBAG and nephews Moses, Jacob, and Aaron CORONEL.There was a further bequest to the Portuguese Synagogue. I hope this information maybe of relevance to some listers.
