Dear Listers, Just the other day, Sherry (my better half) posted our list of "rules." I don't think some people took the time to read what it said so we are addressing two issues below: 1. Do not post off topic. This is the British Jewry list which encompasses the usual countries such as England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Australia, So. Africa. It does not include eastern European countries such as Lithuania or Russia or Poland or the U.S. There are other more relevant lists on which to post those queries. If you seek information about people who lived in the U.K., ask away. However, if they immigrated from somewhere else and you want to know about their shtetl/town of origin or their life before the U.K., this is not the proper forum. 2. Do not cross post. That means that you write the same message to various lists at the same time. Post to one list and if you don't get a satisfactory answer in a few days, post to another list. Our rootsweb robot does not like messages addressed to more than one addressee so it holds it in the queue until either Sherry or I deal with it. This causes more work for us. In addition, those people who belong to multiple lists and receive them in digest format do not like seeing the same message on the same day as they're scrolling through their various digests. Also think about the people who belong to these lists and receive your message individually three or four times in one day and have to delete them. Finally, the whole reason we send Admin. messages out is because they contain information for the smooth running of the list. If people are not prepared to read them and abide by the reminders in them, then our only other course of action is to either moderate or remove people from the list. We don't want to do either one but if people continue to disregard our rules, we will have no choice. Jackye Sullins (Carlsbad, CA) & Sherry Landa (Viersat, France)
