I wonder if any of you can help with suggestions ? I am researching information for my cousin, and have come a little stuck. I know that her grandmother was Annie Kazansky nee Cohen, b. 1882, and that Annie's parents were Moses (a glazier) and Fanny. According to Annie's birth certificate, Fanny was Cohen formerly Cohen. Moses and Fanny appear in Census records of 1881 and 1891 at 33 Verdon Street, Manchester. In 1881, the census shows Moses at 36 years and Fanny at 28 years, and that two of their children, Rebecca (aged 14) and Reuben (aged 12) had been born in Manchester, so had hoped to find them on 1871 census. After much searching of 1871 census, I came across a family at 18 Verdon Street which looks similar, but not quite. Moses Levensovege, aged 27, Glazier. His wife, Agy, aged 28. Children including Rebecca (aged 2.5) and Reuben (aged 9 months). Birth records indicate this was probably a miss-spell, as these two children were registered at birth with surnames of Levonovitch and Levinowich. So I seek advise: Could this be the same family, who simplified their name by adopting Cohen ? If this is the same family, I would really like to find some other evidence to tie them in, but cannot see the name appearing anywhere else. Any advice welcomed. Thanks in advance Andy Lister
