    1. Re: [BRITISH-JEWRY] SHERWINTER in Edinburgh

    3. Miriam, is it possible the Edinburgh SHERWINTERS changed or went back to their original surname? Avotaynu Soundex suggests: Chefender, Chewentrej, Sabanter, Safiander, Savander, Schwander, Schwanter, Schwender, Schwenter, Schwinder, Seewinter, Shpander, Shpinder, Shpoonder, Shpundar, Shventer, Shwander, Shwenter, Sobender, Spander, Spender, Spenter, Spentor, Spinder, Sponder, Spondry, Sppunder, Spunter, Swander, Szpander. SCHWENTER and SHWENTER seem pretty close to the anglicized Sherwinter. There were some Spender/Spinders in Glasgow. JewishGen has a burial record with headstone photo for a lady named Bella SHARVINTER Hoizdorf [1897-1974] buried in Petach Tikvah, Israel. Linda Wolfe Kelley California Miriam Margolyes wrote: I am looking for the SHERWINTER family, who lived in Edinburgh in the 1900s.
