Hello I am new to this list and new to Jewish research, so I'm hoping one of you can suggest something which may help me forward my research. I have a marriage certificate showing that Joseph ABRAHAMS, a bachelor and a General Dealer, from Cobs/Cox's(?) Yard, Petticoat Lane married a Rosetta WOOLF, a spinster, from 4 Cox's Square, Bell Lane on 24th November 1841. Both of full age. His father, deceased, named Lewis ABRAHAMS and her father, also deceased, named Michael WOOLF. The Synagogue Scribes website gives Joseph's father Lewis's Hebrew name as Yehuda; and Rosetta's father Michael's Hebrew name as Meir HaLevi. Synagogue Scribes also gives Rosetta's Hebrew name as Rytsa. The marriage witnesses were Ascher and Pyke, both Readers in the Great Synagogue, so no clues there for further research. In 1848 Joseph & Rosetta and their children - Louis, Michael, and Isaac - arrived in Sydney NSW as immigrants on the ship "Charlotte Jane". The immigration record gives Joseph's parents as Lewis and Rebecca (both deceased) and Rosetta's parents as Michael and Julia (both deceased). Joseph's "Native Place and Country" is recorded as Hackney Middlesex and Rosetta's as Whitechapel Middlesex. Joseph's age given as 38 and Rosetta's as 34. In 1849 Joseph & Rosetta had another son, Phillip, born in Sydney NSW who in 1879 married Rosina (Rosiana) SELIG in Sydney. I think I have found Joseph ABRAHAMS in the 1841 England Census at HO107/717/7 F42 where he is enumerated at Broad Way, St Mary Whitechapel, Tower Hamlets, occupation Dealer, and aged 36. Broad Way is off Goulston Street so in same area as Petticoat Lane and Bell Lane where Joseph & Rosetta were living at time of marriage, so it's feasible that this could be *my* Joseph. I cannot find Rosetta in the 1841 Census. Can anyone suggest sources in England or Australia which may help further my research, or help in any other way? Many thanks Chris, Sydney
