Bob, The first thing that comes to mind is that they may have changed their name. Moscovitch is very 'foreign' sounding. Perhaps they changed it to Moscow, Morris, etc. From my hunting in the JC archives it is clear that around the turn of the century many people changed their surname to make it sound more 'English'. Just an idea ..... Miriam Pollak London > BRICK WALL No. 1. > > Harris Moscovitch born around 1841 and wife Rosa born around 1843 appear on > the 1891 UK census living in Manchester.
Hi Knowing that both my grandfather changed his name to Moss just before my father's birth I had only looked for that derivation but I will check others. Think I will be in London in Nov. Will let you know. Incidentally the Rose Levy that you had a shot of unfortunately is the wrong one. Finally got the death cert. You win some and you lose some. Hope you are doing a little better.
