Hello, I am new to this forum but have been researching various branches of my family tree for a few years now. At the moment I am concentrating on: Joseph Levy (b c1800, died before 1841) and Catherine Moses, born around 1800, Hull Yorkshire, died , Mile End 1881 I know they had five children and I have good information on four of them - if you want more I can post it, otherwise this is enough to identify them: Lipman - born c1823, died 1881 in Wellington, NZ, married to Sarah HOGGARD Frances - born c1824, died 1883 in Wellington, NZ, married to David ABRAHAM(S) 1845 Hannah - born c1827, died 1894 in Wellington NZ, married to Isaac PHILIPS 1845 Benjamin - born c1830, died 1880 in Christchurch, NZ, married to Abigail Adelaide COHEN 1851 All the above were born in London The fifth and elusive child is Henry who at some stage renamed himself Henry Levy LEWIS, born around 1828 I have found a Henry Levy LEWIS who died in Melbourne Australia in 1917 aged 88 - he came to my attention because he lists his parents on his marriage cert as Joseph and Catherine Lewis and was born in London around 1828. I have his second marriage certificate from 1892 in Melbourne which states he was made a widow in 1878, and had eight living and two deceased children at the time of his second marriage. >From his death certificate I know that his first marriage was in America, no other details about his first wife. It also states that he had been in Victoria, Aust since around 1890. He had no children with his second wife, Elizabeth COLLEY, she died in 1919 in Melbourne. I have failed to find him in the US The only other line of enquiry I have at the moment is the Jews' Hospital in Mile End - Lipman was known to have been here in 1841 (can see him in the census record and it is mentioned in his obituary) There is a Henry Levy listed also who may be the one I want - he was 13 in 1841. I have been in touch with the archivist at Norwood (which is what the Jews' Hospital eventually evolved into) and he is looking into it - they may have records showing Henry as an inmate!
