    3. I've been searching our family back beyond 1831 with little success. My wife's GG-Grandfather was David Aaron PHILLIPS . . he married Catherine ISAACS in London 22 June, 1831, at the Great Synagogue in London, two years before their first child, Sophia was born in Jamaica. Someone here led me to the marriage records! He died 4 Aug, 1856, and she died March 26 1875, both in Kingston, Jamaica. She is referred to in the Kingston synagogue record of her children's births as "Kate." Our direct relative is their son Emanuel, who came to Louisiana in 1859 We believe that David had a sister, Sarah who married a SOLOMON in London also. David and Kate's marriage record shows that his father's Hebrew name was Aryeh Shirga Pais; and that her Hebrew name was Keila and her father's was Issachar Behr. I am very eager to know more:. . . birth, parents, etc. The lore is that their family came from Holland/Portugal (we have a Portuguese prayer book that was handed down). Thanks, Dan Henderson, New Orleans, la.
